On Saturday, August 27, hundreds of residents attended our free electric vehicle (EV) test drive at Eastridge Mall in East San José. We were thrilled to offer this sales-free environment for customers to try an EV, speak with experts about rebates and charging, and ask current EV owners about their experience.
Attendees could choose to test drive several models, including the Chevy Bolt, Ford F-150 Lightning, Volkswagen ID.4, Hyundai Kona, and Nissan Leaf Plus. Attendees were also invited to test drive electric scooters and e-bikes, grab lunch, and enjoy music from a local DJ.
One resident shared, “I applaud San José Clean Energy’s efforts to bring the community together and learn more about various clean energy transportation. Hopefully, this event will continue to grow in interest in the coming years.” Nearly 70% of attendees had never driven an EV before and 84% said they were likely to purchase an EV as their next vehicle.
EVs, in conjunction with other low- or zero-emission transportation, play an important role in reducing San José’s greenhouse gas emissions. EVs can also save you money because they have lower maintenance costs and charging is like paying $2 per gallon at the pump.
