SEPTEMBER 2021
What's going on?
Thank you for your patience as we established new communication efforts for MV BLM. As you can see, we moved to a different format and are experimenting with how best to keep you informed and involved with MV BLM. We're planning on a monthly newsletter with intermittent updates to get us started. We welcome your input and ideas and invite you to respond to this email.

We're excited to share we have a website! Stop by online, tell your friends and let us know what you think.
Sunday Vigil Update
On Sunday, September 26, Kendra Salvatore honored Eleanor Northington. We had hoped to share the video of Kendra's sharing but had technical difficulties. These will be address for the next vigil. You can read Eleanor Northington's story here.

Kendra highlighted the thread of mental health throughout many of the stories we share. She pointed us to an organization called Beam, dedicated to removing barriers that Black people experience getting access to or staying connected with emotional care and healing. Find out more about this powerful organization.

We always need speakers! Please let Dana Nunes know if you're willing to present.

Please use this Zoom link for all upcoming vigils until further notice. Thank you Eric Adams for coordinating this via your Zoom account. We look forward to "seeing" all of you next week even if you can't come in person.
What comes next?
On Tuesday, September 7, MV BLM Advisory Group members: Dana Nunes, Eric Adams, Chelsea Simpson, and Bob Reardon hosted a community discussion about transitions and next steps. No decisions were made except to continue the Sunday vigils and continue the conversation.

Please join us on Zoom, Sunday, October 3 at 5:00 p.m. for our next meeting. Help us decide how to structure the group and what comes next.
Listen to Shed, a podcast series featuring interviews with islanders working to end systemic racism. Eric Adams leads each discussion using the unique lens of a therapist. Listeners are invited to "shed their old beliefs about race and make room for a new understanding of it's impact and implications."
