SOUNDINGS BUSINESS WEEKLY

Kids Paint Plein Air at Art Haven on Saturday, October 8

Tribute to Ray Morley

Late last week we learned of the sudden passing of Ray Morley, a dedicated and beloved Ipswich business leader and champion, and longtime owner of the Ipswich Inn. Ray’s death came just a week following his characteristically “from the hip” and heartfelt testimonial at the annual Chamber auction, extolling the benefits of the merger of the Ipswich and Cape Ann Chambers for which he had so strongly advocated. Ray, a former Ipswich Select Board member, was for many years the President of the Ipswich Chamber of Commerce, and this year he was continuing his service to his adopted community as President of the Ipswich-Rowley Rotary Club.

We got to know Ray very well over the course of the past two years, as leaders in both organizations worked collaboratively to bring the merger to fruition and make a smooth and positive transition to a Greater Cape Ann Chamber of Commerce that now includes and embraces the Ipswich community. Ray opened up his Inn and – more importantly – his heart to help make this all possible and we are forever thankful for his generosity. He and his gracious team at the Inn hosted countless planning meetings and community events, always making us feel welcome and appreciated.

As we mark the one-year anniversary of the merger, it is with a mixture of great sadness and deep gratitude that we also mark the passing of our good friend Ray Morley - sadness at the loss of this truly remarkable person and gratitude for his warm and generous friendship and his lifetime of service to Ipswich and the wider Cape Ann community.

On behalf of the Board of Directors, our Chamber team and the entire Chamber membership, we extend our sincere condolences to Ray’s wife Margaret and their family. To learn more about Ray Morley’s life please see his obituary here.

On Monday, November 7, Rockport High School DECA will be bringing back career day for the high school after a two year hiatus. We are looking for volunteer presenters who would be willing to come into school and share their career with students. Last time we did career day we had over 40 presenters from all types of careers and backgrounds. Students enjoyed hearing about the various careers and were grateful for the experience they had that day.

Would you or anyone you know be interested in doing a career day presentation for student small groups? The time commitment would be November 7 between 8AM-10:30AM.

If you are interested, please use this sign up link and enter the required information. Mr. Larsen, DECA advisor, will reach out to you after receiving your information. Career day doesn't happen without adult volunteers. We hope you can be one of them.

Cape Ann Animal Aid Pet of the Week

Meet Snarles Barkley, a 6 month-old Labrador retriever mix full of enthusiasm for every day. Barkley loves people and is always curious. He is ready to play and has some doggy friends and would love your help making more. Barkley wouldn’t mind going into a home with another dog as long as they can keep up with his confident play style and puppy behavior. This guy is very food motivated and has learned “sit” very quickly — he is still learning not to jump up for attention so he would do best in a home with no small kids to knock over. He will need guidance while he finalizes all of his “good dog” manners! Does he sound like the right guy for you? Barkley is available is a foster-to-adopt candidate.. Visit www.capeannanimalaid.org for more information on Target and other dogs and cats available for adoption.
