ELRC Updates

Work Force Support Grant Updates


All Work Force Support Grant payments have been issued for Regions 8, 9, & 10. The Award letter emailed you to in the last 2 weeks indicates the amounts for each of the following categories that you are receiving funds for. 


Please note the following reminders as you begin spending these funds:

  • Group A and Group B Staff Retention - awards must be paid out within 30 days of receiving the funds.
  • All Group A & Group B awards must be paid through payroll.
  • You can move award amounts to staff-related expenses for any staff that have left your program and are no longer on payroll. (Keep documentation of their resignation/termination letter.)
  • Payroll Tax Assistance – this amount is for the employer’s portion of the taxes on the Group A & Group B award. You received 7.65% of your Group A & B total. 
  • This will be documented on your payroll report for the payroll the awards were paid out.
  • Staff-Related Expenses – must be spent by January 31, 2023
  • Click HERE for suggested, eligible uses of this award
  • Family Providers can pre-pay self-employment taxes or pay them when tax forms are received (must be completed prior to reporting on March 31, 2023).

FREE PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT DAY


On Monday, October 10th, ELRCs 8, 9 & 10 will be offering a day of virtual training since many programs close for that day for staff development. You and your staff are welcome to join for one training, or the whole day of trainings. Here is a glimpse of what we are offering, please refer to the flyer for more information.

You will need to complete the form to save your spot. You can complete the form one time if you are watching as a group. If your staff will be watching on their own device, each person should pre-register (this is to confirm we will have enough zoom seats). After Pre-Registering, we will send you the PD Registry links to register you (and your staff) and then that will be followed by the zoom link and the handouts for the sessions you chose.


Please note, you can only choose ONE 10:00 am and ONE 1:00 pm session (unless you are splitting your group between devices).

Pre-registration closes September 26th.

SPANISH CDA OPPORTUNITY


The Professional Development Organization (PDO) is trying to locate students to fill a CDA cohort, offered by PennAEYC, and taught in Spanish.

The course is free of charge to any student who meets our requirements. We’d love to be able to keep this valuable option in the Central Region, so if you have staff that are in need of a CDA taught in Spanish, please reach out to the contact listed below!


Applicants must:

  • Must be a Pennsylvania resident;
  • Be a current employee at a certified child care program for 3 months or more or demonstrate employment history of 6 months in child care if newly hired. Participants actively enrolled in PDO activities will not be impacted by change of employer as long as the new employer is a certified child care program;
  • Work a minimum of 25 hours per week directly in a certified child care program;
  • Earn no more than $25/hour (for Directors);
  • Earn no more than $21.63/hour (for Child Care Teachers, Assistant Teachers, Aides); and
  • Be interested in pursuing coursework at a participating college toward an AA or BA degree or a CDA credential.

September 8 - Allergy, Asthma, and Classroom Inclusion

Breathe Pennsylvania’s Certified Asthma Educators provide two hours of education and training online that will define and differentiate asthma and allergy; describe allergy symptoms and treatment; and explain the impact on children. Breakout sessions demonstrate how to assess and handle asthma and allergy in the classroom utilizing action plans. Group discussion and role play will identify disparities and the need for classroom inclusion. Participants will review environmental triggers, and explore ways to reduce and or eliminate these triggers before school performance and behavior are impacted. There is no prior asthma and allergy knowledge or experience required.
