On October 4, 2022, the first 12 Local Agency Technical Assistance broadband grants were awarded, providing almost $5 million to local governments across California to expand high speed broadband services to unserved and underserved Californians.
The grants support broadband in communities from the Eastern Sierras to the North Coast, and from farm country to the urban heart of the state's largest metropolitan area. The funding will enable local governments to complete complex broadband infrastructure planning and analyze the locations and costs for future local efforts to improve broadband speeds and access.
These first awards were approved under an expedited "ministerial review" process. The CPUC looks forward to acting on an additional 34 grant requests from August.
