As Rabbi Silver mentioned on Yom Kippur, our congregant Amy Lesen has been working with the founders and partners of The Lowlander Center to serve communities in lower Terrebonne, Lafourche, Plaquemines, and Jefferson Parishes which have been devastated by Hurricane Ida. People are unhoused, living in tents, cars, or roofless houses having lost all of their belongings. Shir Chadash can currently help in two ways:
- With gas cards or gift cards to Walmart, Target, Home Depot, or Lowes
- With donations of Damp Rid, air mattresses, carbon monoxide detectors.

Dear Shir Chadash Community,
Whether you attended Yom Kippur services in person or virtually, we hope you found the experience to be spiritually meaningful and uplifting. After a year of unprecedented change and in the aftermath of Hurricane Ida, it was comforting to come together as a community to pray and learn.
Yesterday, around mid-day, there was an interruption in our virtual services. We believe this was due to the work that Cox Communications is performing in Metairie to restore Internet service. We were able to get our livestream up-and-running once we became aware of the situation. We apologize for this unforeseen circumstance and the disruption it may have created.
