URC Affiliation with Church World Service

Afghan Resettlement













The URC expects to serve approximately at least 3 families or 30 individuals through the Afghan Resettlement Placement (APA) program through our affiliation with Church World Service. This program will be underway shortly, but an arrival date is not yet known. URC is updating info to help receive funds and volunteer assistance; stay tuned please!


Key areas of help will include:

  • Temporary housing
  • Household goods
  • Donations of funds

EMERGENCY RENTAL ASSISTANCE: APPLY BY NOVEMBER 19


The URC Advocacy Center has provided over $475,000 in help from the Emergency Rent Assistance (ERA) Program since March, 2021. This is in addition to funds provided by member congregations, including a special grant from the Islamic Society of Michiana, and grants from the United Way COVID Relief Fund and Heat for Homes.

The Jewish Federation of St. Joseph Valley


On Thursday, November 11th at 7:00 PM the Jewish Federation of St. Joseph Valley invites the local community to learn about a transformative project that can change the future of this area: the United Way’s Southeast Neighborhood Center. Call it, “Tikkun Olam in South Bend”.

The Kurt and Tessye Simon Fund for Holocaust Remembrance at Temple Beth El, a longtime supporter of the URC, will host an event on Sunday, November 7 with Sondra Perl. The event, on Zoom, is free but requires registration; info is below.

Maple Tree Update: Nov 3 (pic taken at 10:30 a.m. Weds)


The glorious maple tree and bushes that create a stunning site every fall at URC are nearing their peak, but not quite there (in your editor's opinion). Fortunately, you still have time to join the -0- others who have already not responded to the contest:
