Food for Thought is a monthly, members-only e-newsletter from the Canadian Institute of Food Science and Technology (CIFST).
PRESIDENTIAL FODDER
THANK YOU
Thank you very much for supporting the CIFST. Without your membership, participation and encouragement at the different events, we could not have offered you the programming we did.

AGM
The 2022-2023 year-end is fast approaching with the AGM scheduled for July 20th at noon EST via a Zoom call. Don't forget to REGISTER.

FOOD CLUSTER INITIATIVE. $ FOR RESEARCH PROJECTS
Our application to form a food cluster is currently being reviewed by Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada. If accepted, the CIFST will oversee the management of more than $12,000,000 of Industry led R&D projects that will increase Canada's leadership in new innovative food technologies.

SUBMITTING NEW R&D PROJECTS
New projects can be submitted through the Project Stream. Please contact us for more information.

2023 CANADIAN FOOD SUMMIT
Our annual conference was held in London, Ontario from June 7th to 9th. It was an excellent program with speakers from across Canada featuring topics on the latest in food science research and acknowledging industry challenges. Whether it was addressing labour shortages through robotics, addressing climate change, reducing food waste or new sources of protein, the programming reflected the concerns of the industry and offered tangible solutions.

KNOWLEDGE BITES
Our web-based bi-weekly education seminars offer informative programming that you can enjoy over your lunch hour. The webinars showcase the latest trends and technologies in the Canadian food industry. Members can access the recordings HERE.

CIFST ALT
The CIFST ALT is becoming a highly regarded forum to exchange new trends in the Canadian food industry. From cultured foods moving from the lab into production to new apps that will help reduce food waste, CIFST ALT is the place to be.

SUPPLIERS NIGHT
The Industry Supplier's Nights held across Canada through the local Sections of CIFST as well as the Table Top Exhibits at the recent Canadian Food Summit in London, ON are valuable returns on your investment. It is where suppliers, R&D and buyers meet to exchange ideas, view the latest trends and maybe conclude a few supply agreements.

MEMBERSHIP
Our programming is attracting new members. We have now surpassed the pre-Covid membership numbers and are still growing.

STRATEGIC PLAN
The CIFST will be implementing a new strategic plan shortly. The CIFST is an organisation of food professionals and we will ensure that our members' development needs are met during the length of their food careers.

TIME TO SAY GOODBYE
I would like to thank the CIFST for helping me during the 30+ years I have been a CIFST member. I was an active board member of the Quebec section, the President of that same section, a board member of the CIFST National and finally the President. It has been very fulfilling and a highlight in my food industry career.

I would encourage every member to engage at the local or national level with the CIFST.

At the AGM, I will be handing over the presidency to Yvonne Yuan, Associate Professor at the Toronto Metropolitan University and I will become the immediate Past President. I will continue to be an active member of the board and look forward to serving the membership.

ENJOY YOUR SUMMER. SEE YOU IN THE FALL.

Take care and regards,
Louis Ayotte
President - Canadian Institute of Food Science and Technology
