PINE STREET POST
August 15th, 2021
A Weekly Newsletter from Pine Street Church
A Word from Andrew... Bread, Wine, and Olive Oil (it will make more sense when you join us for worship via Zoom today at 10am...)
Dear Pine Street Church Members and Friends,

Today at 10am via Zoom, we will gather for worship, Scripture, songs, silence, and a message about what it means in the fullest of human ways to accept Jesus invitation to "eat my flesh and drink my blood." That's right. The Gospel of John (6:51-58) tells us provocatively not what to believe but rather what to do. Join us today to find out more and feel the deepest wisdom of Jesus' open-armed welcome to the table of Christ, no matter where it is or where we are.

Please take a moment, too, to explore this edition of the Pine Street Post. Find out ways you can connect, participate, and make a difference for our partners here in Boulder called TGTHR. (More information below).

Finally, I know that today God's heart is broken along with ours over the devastating earthquake in Haiti that happened yesterday. I invite you to take time to reflect on this Prayer for Haiti.

Grace, peace, and love,
Andrew

Spotlight on Mission

TGTHR is the new name for what formerly was Attention Homes. Their motto is: TGTHR — TO END YOUTH HOMELESSNESS. That sums up their mission. For 55 years they have worked with Boulder’s youth to provide a place to live, employment, access to education, wellness, and a supportive community. They provide a safe environment where youth can learn, grow, and develop into confident young adults.

Another giving opportunity!

TGTHR’s housing complex for young adults is at 1440 Pine Street; they are our neighbors! To support the young adults that are returning to school or have jobs this fall, let’s help by providing some needed supplies.

Here is TGTHR’s list of most needed items:

  • Backpacks
  • Day Planners
  • Calendars
  • Alarm Clocks and Wall Clocks
  • Pens and Pencils
  • Spiral Notebooks
  • Art Supplies (colored pencils, journals or sketchbooks, markers, paint, canvas, etc)
  • Gift Cards to Target
  • Snacks (granola bars, fruit snacks, crackers, etc)

You're invited to bring your donations to the Church Work Day on Saturday, August 28th, and/or our final Outdoor service of the Summer on Sunday August 29th at the home of Stuart and Adderly Lord.

Pine Street Church also supports TGTHR by providing meals to youth in their residential program. Currently three teams of women each provide a meal to Chase House once a quarter, so that Pine Street Church is providing one meal a month. If you would like to be part of this ministry, contact Debbie Setlock, (303) 931-5556.

The Spirit of Wealth - Give To Caesar What is Caesar's..., Pt 1

Most of us live with conflicting views about money. We all would like more of it in our life, yet we simultaneously experience it as dangerous and possibly evil. This conflict at the personal level reflects itself in the organizations we are a part of, including our places of employment, spiritual organizations, and other non-profits. How can we resolve this duality which threatens our ability to live a satisfying life, as well as acquire the necessary resources to fulfill our mission at the personal and communal levels?

In this four-part series, we will examine history's great teachings on this subject, both literary and visual, and look at real-life examples of those who successfully navigated this dual obligation of giving to Caesar what is Caesar's and to God, what is God’s.

CLICK HERE to join me Sunday morning as we continue our live virtual meetings, always ending with your chance to share your thoughts and ideas.

Oasis Women's Group: New Book Study

The Oasis women’s book study/support/ministry is currently reading The Four Sacred Gifts: Indigenous Wisdom for Modern Times by Dr. Anita L. Sanchez. "The Four Sacred Gifts reveals how our world depends on each of us to discover our interconnectedness to people, earth, and animals, with awareness that we are ‘all one relation’”.

Dr. Sanchez is a Boulder author. This is a great time for women to join the group to learn something new, as well as develop new relationships. Contact Mary Beth Mankin, mbmankin545@gmail.com, with questions or to get zoom information for Oasis meetings on Thursdays at 1:30 PM.
