A Message from Nicole

Since my first day on staff at Impact Austin, I’ve been impressed and overwhelmed with the dedication and generosity of our members. Your passion for making a positive impact in our community and doing that TOGETHER is what drives me. Whether you are serving on a Grant Review Committee, finding innovative ways for our members to connect, keeping our website up-to-date, creating communications (like this newsletter) for our members and community, developing policies to ensure Impact Austin is aligned with our organizational values, or inviting others to join our collective – THANK YOU! Our work is not possible without you. Whether you are new to Impact Austin or a long-time member looking for ways to get involved, I encourage you to check out our Volunteer page for more information. As a volunteer-powered organization, our work is best with the help of many hands and a diversity of experiences.

It's been a joy to work alongside Impact Austin members in my role as Interim Executive Director as we plan our many fall events and kick-off our 20th anniversary year. I'm especially excited to connect with each of you as we get back to meeting in-person and celebrating this important milestone together. Be sure to bookmark our Events page to stay up to date on all our upcoming activities. I hope to see you at an event soon!

Let's Celebrate 20 Extraordinary Years

Impact Austin turns 20 in June, and we’re kicking off the anniversary celebration in September! Here’s a sneak peek at the anniversary logo you’ll see for the next 10 months. Soon we’ll start to publish content, including blogs, social media, and newsletter articles These will tell the stories of Member Voices, Social Impacts, and Growth & Change.

Next year we’ll premiere our 20th anniversary video, and by June 2023, you’ll be proud of what we’ve accomplished with grant partners, all we’ve learned, and the many ways we strive to grow and improve.

Grantmaking

The Fall Grant Season Begins

Fall Grant Review Committees (GRCs) are working in a hybrid approach. The Equity GRC is meeting virtually, while the Health & Well-Being GRC is meeting in person at the Leadership Austin office. 47 members are serving, including GRC chairs and advisors. A total of 56 applications were received. Stay tuned to our blog to follow the progress of this fall grant cycle.

Grants Team Wants to Train Leaders

More than any other committee, our Grants team has built a strong structure and leadership pipeline. Leadership is open to all members, and new leaders are very welcome, with "shadow" positions (co-chairs in training) offered. Reach out if you'd like to participate in the administration of this amazing team.

g3 Opens Registration to New Members

Through Sep 23, new members are invited to register for Girls Giving Grants, Impact Austin’s youth initiative. Girls in grades 8-12 are welcome to join, and community service hours may be offered. All the details are here on our website. In June, g3 surpassed $100,000 in grants supporting Austin-area youth. Read about their impact here.

Membership

Recruitment Season Begins

Members received a call to action to support new member recruitment in any of the following ways:

·       Complete the non-binding Recruitment Event Host Interest Form

·       Host or co-host an in-person membership event

·       Request help to host or co-host an event

·       Host or participate with a virtual membership event

·       Invite a friend or colleague to an event

·       Assist with an event (non-binding volunteer form linked)

Volunteers Needed on All Committees

With a membership of 400+, you might think that we have abundant hands-on volunteer help. But more hands are needed! With a broader volunteer base, we avoid burnout in existing volunteers and maintain diverse backgrounds, experiences, and skills in all our areas of work. Please take a look at our Volunteer page, and how you might fit in, while we call attention to special hot jobs.

Community Partner Spotlight

Austin Tenants Council

Our 2021 Community Grant to Austin Tenants Council supports their Central Texas Housing Stability Initiative. This expanded the geographic reach of ATC housing education and counseling services to underserved areas in Bastrop, Hays, and Williamson counties.

Within Travis County, ATC is now recruiting a team of Community-Based Housing Advocates to provide easily accessible peer-to-peer housing rights education within communities at high risk of housing loss. Other services include no-charge mediation, a portal to report housing discrimination, counseling services offered in-person, by phone, and online, and lease packets for landlords. Learn more here.
