5th graders test solar cookers
|
In Science class this week, 5th graders learned about the process of transferring thermal energy, including radiant energy from the sun, and built their own solar cookers.
On a very hot and sunny afternoon, the students tested their designs by setting up and monitoring 100 ml of water in a tin can over the course of 18 minutes.
Between collecting data points, the student ducked into the shade for quick water breaks.

4th graders explore forces of flight
|
This activity may make you wish you could return to elementary school.
Fourth graders are learning about the forces of flight, Mrs. Holden reports, and they're exploring those forces with hoop gliders.
As budding scientists, they're developing future investigations by changing a variable.

Keystone named Best in San Antonio
|
|
Although we appreciate that Keystone has ranked highly in the review site Niche, we know the most important factor is the experience of our students.
Still, it's good to see that Niche has rated Keystone as the Best Private School in San Antonio, and among the finest in Texas and in the top tier in the United States.
Niche tabulates its rankings based on a number of factors, including SAT/ACT scores, where students attend college after graduation, how many students go on to four-year colleges, amount of racial and economic diversity, parent surveys and student-teacher ratio.

On this afternoon, prospective families will get a chance to tour classrooms and learn more about Keystone from students, teachers and administrators. They'll see how our high expectations and nurturing environment produce amazing young people.
To minimize health risks, we will implement COVID protocols and make sure this event will take place primarily outdoors.

Billy's Blog - From our Head of School
|
|
“Success is no accident. It is hard work, perseverance, learning, studying, sacrifice and most of all, love of what you are doing or learning to do.”
-Pelé
“This feels so good!” “I’ve really missed this.” “We’re getting back to normal.” These were some of the parent comments at last Saturday morning’s Lower School soccer games. For the first time in two years, we were able to reconvene on the sidelines and cheer on the younger Cobras as they played against students from other schools. It was great to be together again.
The Saturday morning games felt all the more special by the sheer number of Keystone children playing. We inaugurated interscholastic sports in the Lower School in 2019 with one second grade soccer team. That pilot program proved successful in a variety of ways. (As a bonus, the Keystone team even won all their games.)

|
From National Honor Society sponsor Mr. Lindsay:
Keystone’s National Honor Society is walking and fundraising to support the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Light The Night event! The funds we raise are needed to help find better treatments and cures for blood cancers so patients can live better, longer lives. When you support LLS, you not only advance the most pioneering cancer research of our time, you accelerate promising treatments that save lives.
Cancer impacts all of us, but because of events like Light The Night we can make a difference. The event takes place Oct. 9.
