HAVE A GOOD BELLY LAUGH
_________________
When my children were little, I loved to tickle them. Even as babies, it was so wonderful to hear their laughter and giggles. It filled my heart with joy. I still like to tickle my grandchildren when they visit, and it still fills my heart with joy.
Years ago, I visited a day care to put on a program by the company I worked for. I always used puppets and humor to get the children to laugh. This daycare was different. Every one of these little ones never smiled or laughed. I wondered what was going on at that place where there was absolutely no normal children’s laughter.
People need to laugh. Yes, we are living in very serious
times, but laughter is healing. It has been researched that there are benefits from laughter. Here are some of them:
1. It boosts your immunity. The National Cancer institute found out that people who laugh on a regular basis decrease the hormones related to stress inside their bodies. It also increases the number of natural killer cells and activated T cells that help your body stay strong. So, laugh your way out of any cancer that has attacked your body.
2. A good belly laugh is almost as good as a good workout. Researchers have found that laughing, a whole body laugh, actually provides you with a mini workout. It boosts your respiratory rate, heart rate, and oxygen consumption.
3. It improves heart health. The Cleveland Clinic has findings that laughing increases the blood flow to the heart which can help reduce scary heart-related issues.
4. Laughter relieves stress. The giggles can instantly relieve the stress response of the body and can help to soothe all tension. Stress has been known to be a killer, so laugh your way out of stress.
These are just a few of the things that laughter helps with. It proves that the scripture in Proverbs 17:22 is correct where it says, “A merry heart doeth good like a medicine: but a broken spirit drieth the bones.”
Determine to make laughter part of your daily health “diet.” Do not be like some that seem to have been baptized in vinegar because they are such sourpusses! Smiles
