What: Interest meeting for the international trip
When: Tuesday, June 15, 2021 at 6:00 p.m.
Where: Online via Zoom
Everyone registered for the international trip by the night of this virtual interest meeting will receive the option of a FREE day trip to Mijas!
Mijas is known as the "White Village”. This small village nestled in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada’s may be viewed as the ideal Andalusion village with its narrow cobblestone streets, sheer-white houses, and numerous flowering gardens. Many artists and writers have made it their home, enjoying the benefits of an excellent all year round climate, without being part of the busier, more commercial coastal towns. Mijas offers magnificent views of the coast from its natural balcony of over 1400 feet above sea level.

Clement Wheatley announces Sarah Holmes Crumpton as an Associate Attorney.
Sarah is a native of Ruffin, North Carolina, and a graduate of Rockingham County High School. Sarah graduated from Davidson College as a Baker-Vagt Scholar in 2017 and earned her Juris Doctorate degree, cum laude, in 2019 from Elon University School of Law in Greensboro, North Carolina.
Sarah focuses her practice on Wills, Trusts and Estates, and Corporate and Business Law. She also provides related litigation support in those practice areas. Sarah is currently licensed to practice law in North Carolina and is pursuing her license in Virginia.
Sarah looks forward to continuing her commitment to the broader community and becoming actively involved in the Dan River Region.

The first cohort of students started May 3 at the new Averett School of Nursing ABSN Learning Center in Norfolk, VA.
Averett’s accredited ABSN program creates a new professional path for students with non-nursing bachelor’s degrees – or with at least 60 non-nursing college credits – to help them shift their career and become a nurse sooner.
The hybrid format combines online curriculum with hands-on application in an interactive, state-of-the-art learning lab, and can be completed in as few as 16 months. Students also will apply their skills through clinical rotations at Bon Secours, the University’s health care partner in Norfolk.

The new partnership agreement between the two institutions consists of two pathways: a three-plus-three dual-degree option and a four-plus-three traditional pathway.
The agreements include some very generous scholarship packages, making the path to earning a law degree even more affordable for students. Two of the highest level scholarships – each totaling $144,000 in student aid over the course of their time at ASL – will be reserved for Averett students in the three-plus-three program, and students in the four-plus-three can also apply. Additional merit scholarships are also available for qualifying students in either program.

Almost 200 graduated from Averett University at outdoor, in-person commencement ceremony.
For the first time from the Frank R. Campbell Stadium, Averett University conferred degrees of almost 200 graduates outdoors on Saturday, May 8, from its E. Stuart James Grant North Campus.
The graduating class of 2021, aged 20 to 60, includes 17 veterans and seven international students from Australia, Bahamas, Canada, Denmark, Sweden and the United Kingdom. At least 40% of the graduates are first-generation college attendees.
Commencement speaker was U.S. Air Force Colonel Kim N. Campbell, director of the Center for Character and Leadership Development at the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado.
Campbell’s message for the graduates: “You can’t have courage without some fear.”

Averett University added yet another meaningful tradition to its end-of-year roster of celebrations as it hosted its first-ever nurse practitioner white coat ceremony – an event following the annual Nurse Pinning Ceremony for the 2021 nursing graduates.
The nursing pin the graduates were presented in today’s ceremony denotes the nursing school from which one has graduated, and the ceremony welcomes new nurses into the profession. In addition, the nursing cap worn by each graduate – except the one male in this graduating class – has been part of the female nurse’s uniform since the early history of nursing, representing a hygienic and professional look. Today, it serves as a universal symbol of nursing care and kindness.
In an equally symbolic ceremony, the University kicked off a new White Coat Ceremony tradition at 1 p.m. – one that has been held among medical schools for decades, but is becoming a growing trend among nursing schools with master-level, advanced practice nursing programs.
Normally conducted prior to a family nurse practitioner (FNP) student’s first clinical experience, Averett invited members of all three cohorts of its recently established Master of Science in nursing program to participate since 2020 didn’t allow for in-person ceremonies. Eight students participated.

Averett University’s annual Faculty, Staff and Retiree Appreciation Celebration returned to an in-person setting Thursday, May 6, but this time outdoors.
Averett President Dr. Tiffany Franks first hosted retirees from the past two years in an intimate setting at the President’s Suite inside the Frank R. Campbell Stadium at Averett’s E. Stuart James Grant North Campus, before joining all faculty and staff on Daly Field for the full ceremony that celebrates their milestones and accomplishments and honors retirees.

Students Morgan Jones, Jordan Bennett, Kaitlyn Ritchie, Morgann Dills, Makayla Woods and Sarah Toothman created the units in their history methods class for kindergarten through fifth grade students in Danville Public Schools.
DMFAH Director Elsabe Dixon noted these are the first type of local history ties available to area teachers following the 2019 creation of the 1960s Danville civil rights movement timeline. She also said Rachel Fehrnstrom with the Virginia Department for the Blind and Vision Impaired will be working with the museum to add in content for students who are blind or visually impaired.
Creating the units took the better part of the spring semester for the education students.
Each unit ties together Virginia Standards of Learning per grade level, artifacts from the museum and elements of local history. Area teachers will have the opportunity to check out the weeklong units from the museum and blend the curriculum into the classroom. The museum will replenish and maintain the units.

Erica received her Master of Science in Nursing [MSN] – Family Nurse Practitioner degree from South University [Savannah, GA] and received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Kaplan University
[Davenport, IA].
At Sovah Family Medicine – Yanceyville, Erica is specializing in primary care for children and adults, annual physicals, immunizations, high blood pressure, diabetes management, school physicals and chronic disease management.
Erica is accepting new patients, and appointments may be made by calling 336.694.6969.

The leaders for Sovah Health have the privilege of working with an incredible team of healthcare heroes who work tirelessly, each and every day, to make our hospital and our community a better place.
Every May, hospitals and communities across the country recognize and celebrate these frontline healthcare heroes over the course of several weeks: National Nurses Week, National Hospital Week and National Emergency Medical Services [EMS] Week. Like many other milestones experienced during the COVID-19 pandemic, this year’s celebrations are especially meaningful.
They are grateful for the more than 1,600 team members who serve at Sovah Health and the many paramedics, EMTs and EMS personnel who play such a critical role in helping our community members get the safe, excellent care they need. They are living examples of what it means to be heroes who are focused on making our community a better place through their service to our friends and neighbors.

Food Service and Nutrition Staff who prepare healthy and comforting meals for patients while they are away from home.

EMS partners who remain calm under immense pressure, providing critical care when every minute counts.
Dedicated Caregivers, Technicians, Nurses, Physicians and more who demonstrate excellence and compassion in all that they do.
The local healthcare heroes are truly living out the hospital’s mission to Make our Community Healthier. Importantly, their focus and dedication has played a critical role in helping make strong progress towards improving COVID-19 here in our community.
While we must continue to stay diligent in doing all that we can to fight the pandemic, know we are all encouraged by the progress we are making together.
As we celebrate this year, we hope you will join us in sharing your thanks and appreciation for the everyday heroes among us.
