JANUARY 12, 2023
Winter Term is in full swing! The "Dairy Farm to Table" class toured Hornstra Farm in Norwell, Mass., on Tuesday. Students learned about how the farm workers milk their cows and prepare milk to be sold in their farm store and the local community.

The "Going Viral" Winter Term class has been photographing all the other classes and their activities. Visit the Winter Term album to see their pictures — and follow Brooks' Instagram, Facebook and Twitter to view photos and video from the fun throughout each day, every day!
See You at the Winter Term Symposium!
All parents and guardians are invited to join us on Jan. 21 from 9 to 11 a.m. for the Winter Term Symposium. The open-house-style event is the culmination of Winter Term (see what last year's looked like in this highlights video) and an opportunity to learn about your student's Winter Term experience. Come see final presentations and performances, meet the teachers who have worked very hard to create meaningful classes and explore the Winter Term curriculum. Siblings are welcome.
Information for Fifth-Form Families from the College Counseling Office
The College Kickoff for parents/guardians of fifth-form students will take place during two upcoming dates via Zoom. There will be an overview of the college search and application process on Jan. 17, with Brooks' college counseling team; and there will be a panel Q & A on Jan. 26, with experienced admission professionals from five colleges and universities around the country. The sessions, both from 7 to 8 p.m., will cover different material and both will be recorded. Please note:

  • Standardized tests: SAT and ACT registration is the responsibility of each student/family.

  • The SAT on March 11 is not offered at Brooks. The registration deadline is Feb. 10. Go to collegeboard.org to register.

  • Most fifth-form students take either/both the April ACT and/or the May SAT, both are offered at Brooks.

  • Any questions about testing can be directed to Brooks' testing coordinator, Interim Director of the Learning Center Karina Moltz.
Arts
Save the Date for our Winter Musical, Chicago: Teen Edition!
Brooks' FireTrail Theatre student performers, technicians, musicians and designers are joining forces this winter to produce Chicago: Teen Edition on Feb. 23-25. Don't miss your chance to experience the drama, jazz and intrigue of one of America's longest-running musicals. Free tickets will be available in early February.
Current and Upcoming Lehman Exhibits
There was a fantastic turnout for the Nella Lush P’95 artist reception in the Robert Lehman Art Center on Jan. 7. This exhibition of mixed-media paintings is part of the “Italian Art and Culture” Winter Term course, in which students are working with Nella Lush, a full-time artist with studios in North Andover, Mass., and Boston (shown below). All are welcome to come on campus and view the works. Let us know when you'll be by on our Visiting the Lehman page!

Next in the gallery, from March 30 to May 1, is HOPE: Faculty and Friends of the Robert Lehman Art Center Gallery, an exhibition of creative works by faculty, staff, family members and alumni responding to the theme of hope. Please complete this form for each work you would like considered for the exhibit!
Health & Wellness
Self-Defense Presentation and Workshop
Brooks School's "B Well" wellness program is hosting a self-defense presentation tonight, Jan. 12, at 7 p.m. in the Keating Room, followed by a hands-on workshop tomorrow, Jan. 13, at 7 p.m. in the wrestling room (socks must be worn).

While we are fortunate to live in a safe community here at Brooks, we know that our community travels far and wide and dangers can happen anywhere. Self-defense expert Julie Barron Morrill will teach us skills inspired by Krav Maga, an Israeli form of hand-to-hand combat and self-defense.

No sign-up is necessary. Any and all Brooks community members are welcome to watch Friday’s event, but you must be present for Thursday’s discussion in order to participate on Friday.
