O give thanks to the Lord, for he is good;
for his steadfast love endures forever.
~Psalm 107:1
Dear Friends,
With our First Kids students in chapel this month, I am reading The Thank You Book starring Elephant and Piggie. In case you haven’t read it, Piggie decides to say thank you to everyone he knows. He wants to be a “thanking machine.”
In response to all that God has given and continues to give, I love the idea of our being “thanking machines,” too. Who can you thank this week? How can you thank God this week?
Thank you, FPC friends for all the ways you live your faith out loud. I give thanks to God that I get to serve alongside you.
Grace and peace,
Ellen
FPC and the Santa Scramble
FPC can be found under the list of groups/teams. All ages and paces welcome!

Gathered Together, 2022 Stewardship Season
|
This is the first week of our Stewardship Season. By now, all church families should have received a letter with a pledge card asking that prayerful consideration be given to creating a gift for our church for the 2022 church calendar year.
Throughout November members of our church will reflect on how being a part of FPC enables them to live their faith as members of God’s gathered and sent community. This Banner features a video clip of Helen Morrison, a long-time and faithful member since 1942, who shares memories of the fulling presence of the church in her life and her descendants. Click here to view. On Sunday, Dakeita Vanderburg, a member of our choir and active volunteer with the Presbyterian Women, will provide her reflection on God’s presence in her life.
You are invited to bring your pledge card to the November 21st service where, while gathered together, we will bring our gifts forward as a symbol of our support of God’s work within our church and community. You may also mail it, drop it by the church office, or pledge on line here

What Can We Learn Today from a Study of Jonah and Nahum?
Dave True to Teach The Todd Hobbie Class
The Todd Hobbie Class welcomes Dave for the next two Sundays, November 7th and November 14th.
As Dave says "Jonah and Nahum may seem like odd topics for adult Bible study. After all, isn't Jonah for children? And what is Nahum even about? Over the next two weeks, I hope we'll discover that the two books help us better understand the church's mission today. We'll begin with the book of Nahum."

October was filled with fall fun for our little ones.
The beautiful weather has allowed for lots of outdoor play and nature walks. We turned the Fairy Garden by the playground into the First Kids Pumpkin Patch, where children could "pick" their own pumpkins and ride in a hay wagon, while sipping on juice from the apple stand.
Our fall veggies, including celery, kale, cabbage and lettuce were planted in the raised beds and we are still picking green peppers from the summer plants. A huge thank you goes to Mary Ann Johnson for the dirt, some plants, and gardening tips, and to the grounds committee who cleaned out the back half of the Fairy Garden. You have doubled our space for natural play!
We were so happy to add monthly chapel time sessions back to our schedule with the help of our new favorite person, Pastor Ellen. Pastor Ellen also joined other staff members and preschool parents to give out goodies to our 120 costumed characters as they trick or treated around campus.
As the season of giving approaches we will participate in the Cuddle Up Coat Drive for the Partnership For Children and will be selling Sam's Carwash tickets to benefit the First Kids Scholarship program.
We continue to stay "Covid-cautious" but so love carefully getting back to some normal activities.
Learning and Playing Together,
Maureen

The Board of Deacons in partnership with FPC members is pleased to once again participate in Angel Tree, a Prison Fellowship Program that helps incarcerated parents strengthen relationships with families. Volunteers from the congregation participate by donating Christmas gifts which are then presented to a child as if they have come directly from the parent behind bars This is a powerful way for us to share Christ's love by ministering to those suffering through the temporary absence of a parent.
We encourage you to choose an Angel Tree tag from the Angel Tree that will be in the narthex next Sunday, November 14. We ask that all wrapped gifts be returned to the Fellowship House by Sunday, November 28, so they may be sorted and distributed to the families. Gifts can be dropped off during office hours or on Sunday mornings. Thank you, the Board of Deacons.
