Oakville is a thriving

and shining example

Mayor and Council joined by residents for annual Levee

Mayor Burton highlighted the challenges and opportunities for the new year and term of council at the 2023 Annual New Year's Levee at Town Hall.

“If we work together, we can make Oakville stay the very best place in the country. I believe Oakville is the most livable Town in the country, that’s why I stayed here.

"I believe that’s why you stayed here and I noticed that people are still trying to get in. If we work together, we can keep it that way and keep making it better,” stated Mayor Burton.

“In the coming weeks and months, we're going to be doing everything we can to make sure that Oakville is a thriving and shining example to everybody in the province, the country and the world. There is no issue that I have ever seen in my life where everybody agrees except this one thing – I think we all agree that Canada is the best place on the planet to live.”

Minister of National Defence, Anita Anand was in attendance and addressed members of the community.

MPP Stephen Crawford and MP Pam Damoff also sent their best wishes for the year ahead.

Halton Police leads in every one of Statistics Canada's police performance categories

Halton Regional Police Services (HRPS) Chief, Stephen Tanner and HRPS Chair, Councillor Jeff Knoll gave presentations on the performance of our police services in their budget overview to Regional Council.

"Halton Police Service continues to perform extremely well relative to comparator services in similar large communities. In fact, it is the top performer in every one of Statistics Canada's police performance categories. Halton Region remains the safest large community in all of Canada, going on ten plus years. ," Ward 5 Town and Regional Councillor and HRPS Chair, Jeff Knoll said.

"Halton Regional Police need to have sufficient resources to continue to respond to resident concerns while tackling growing crime trends."

Halton Police Chief Stephen Tanner highlighted how Halton Police have achieved the lowest Crime Severity Index of the largest municipalities for 17 years.

HRPS leads in clearing more crime and more serious crime than other jurisdictions and the “people of Halton should be extremely proud of that, Chief Stephen Tanner said.”
