Headmaster Highlights

As a child, I remember coming across the concept that time moves faster as one grows older. It was one of the few ideas from childhood that I can still cognizantly recall storing in the back of my mind, and whenever whatever impetus causes it to bubble to the forefront of my consciousness, I am astounded at just how much faster things seem to be moving than the last time I had that thought.

I began my work with Heart of Ohio Classical Academy last March, and I am pretty sure that was really just last week. Our students, your children, are now more than a quarter ways into their first year at their new school. When did that happen? How did that happen?

Conversely, kids will experience the length of an activity with an entirely different set of adjudicating metrics than does an adult. A 20 minute car ride may take a good number of months. A dentist appointment can last decades. What is the real value of a minute? Ask a child. They’ll tell you. (This point should be especially salient and enlightening for those who find themselves being begged by their children for another 5 minutes before ‘lights out’).  

As you enjoy the upcoming Thanksgiving break with your family, I encourage you to be especially mindful of the experiences that you share with your family and friends, for taking the time to appreciate the event as you experience it will heighten your enjoyment of it. Moreover, whilst the event may pass in a blink for you, that good time may span years in the eyes of your child.

Our second set of Parent Teacher Conferences will take place this coming Tuesday, November 26th. If you have not already registered via the link sent by your child’s classroom teacher, please do so at your earliest convenience. Should you be unavailable, please reach out to your child’s teacher to schedule an alternate meeting time.

Cold weather is upon us! Please ensure that your child has appropriate articles of clothing for outside recesses and gym.

Mark your calendars! On Monday, December 2, Members of the HOCA Governing Authority will host a discussion around the mission & vision of our school, and our future plans for moving forward. This will be a tremendous opportunity to discuss suggestions that YOU would like to see for our school growth. The event will take place at 7 pm in our auditorium. See you there!
