Dear Friends of The Blue Purl,

There are two ways to look at the world, and it’s up to you to choose.

You can worry about all that is going wrong, and oh, there is quite a lot from the crazy heat and fires around the world, to the still lingering covid crisis.

Or, you can think about how glorious the world is. The sea. The sun. The sticky August days. The cicadas song that rings all through the night. The wet bathing suits. Family.

We choose the latter and we hope you do, too.

Let us help you see the glory in the moment. Come take a class, we are offering 20. Each offers a chance to expand your skills, make some new friends and -- perhaps most glorious of all -- grow.

Remember the old adage, “Gold and silver can fade away, but a good education is here to stay.”
Knowledge. Community. The Sun Rise.

That is what we are about here at The Blue Purl.

We are always trying to empower you with knowledge, that is why we offer the classes. And we are always working to make beautiful new fibers available for you to choose. Come see our new offerings from The Farmer's Daughter and Brooklyn Tweed.

As we return from vacation, still aglow, not yet worn down by the day to day stresses, we want to make a promise to you. We will never forget how lucky we are to have the opportunity to serve you and to count you as our community.
This is sincere. People who knit and crochet are a special sort. By definition you are creative, thoughtful, caring and determined.

You are the main reason we are optimistic and can start each day focusing on all that is special in our world.

There is plenty of time to worry.
Right now, let’s celebrate all that is right in the moment, Come visit the Blue Purl.

So MUCH New!
Brooklyn Tweed
If you haven't heard through the social media grapevine, we now carry Brooklyn Tweed! You all gave us such a nice welcome to the Pop-up last Fall, we decided to carry this fabulous yarn in our stock. And by yarn, we mean, Shelter, Arbor, Loft and Peerie! You can find all these yarns online or in the shop.
"Shelter is woolen spun, meaning the fibers remain in a lofty jumble that traps air and offers remarkable warmth and lightness. Once knit, Shelter achieves its full beauty after a wet blocking, as each stitch relaxes and bonds with its neighbors to produce a plush fabric with a halo."
We love it for the Crosby Sweater class or the Creel Hat/Cowl class.
Arbor is a smooth 3-ply DK weight yarn that has amazing stitch definition. We used it for the Svenson Sweater class last Fall. This yarn is great for working textures & cables.
Loft has a similar texture to Shelter but in a fingering weight. In our experience, this yarn blocks into an incredibly softly fabric and the colors are great for colorwork. We love it for our Julenatt Mitten class.
Peerie is also fingering weight but in a smooth 4-ply finish that is great for textures and cables too. The yarn has a bouncy feel that is soft to the touch. We are running a Brooklyn Tweed hat class- First Cables Hat ideal for this yarn.
Farmer's Daughter Fibers
Three days before our summer break the Blue Purl also started carrying Farmer's Daughter Fibers! (We thought you may have missed that.) We have MIghty Mo, Squish Fingering, Juicy DK and Craggy Tweed overflowing our table. We love the beautiful hand-dyed colors combined with the strength and stitch definition of these yarns. Find them all online or in our shop.

This is one of Tam's favorite yarns and she already knit up the Pluma Rosa sweater with Squish Fingering. In case you missed it, Pluma Rosa is by Anjali Diwan, one of our customers that started designing sweaters and released 3 sweater patterns in 3 months! Her colorwork designs are gorgeous & deserve the beauty of a hand-dyed yarn.

We also like the squish fingering for our Pink Fizz sweater class, Beloved Berliner or Laurelie Shawl classes.

If you're not familiar with Might Mo, you are in for a treat. It is a gorgeous hand-dyed mohair/silk blend that is nothing like your grandmother's mohair. This beauty is strong and soft and is beautifully unique in every skein. Wendy held 1 skein with a solid color yarn to get a new look in her Simple Yet Effective Cowl. Tam is already using it in her next test knit sweater, out next month. Can't wait to see this beauty in action.
Double Sunday
In case you missed the IG, our Sandnes Garn products has expanded recently to include Double Sunday - a DK weight yarn - in colors chosen by PetiteKnit, the designer herself. We love the "quality/affordability quotient" of Sandnes Garn products and Double Sunday is a perfect example of this. We chose a couple of favorites to share- the Champagne Cardigan and the Festival Sweater, both by PetiteKnit, but we have many more ideas in our Ravelry Bundle.

This yarn is available online or in the store.
Rowan Pure Wool Superwash Worsted
We don't talk about it a lot but we love using Rowan Pure Wool Superwash Worsted as a workhorse staple. We received so many new colors of this yarn recently, we had to show them off. This yarn would be perfect for our new Building in Colors blanket class, Christmas Stockings class or the Little Coffee Bean class.
Check out the Baby Sophisticate Cardigan Tam knit up for a baby gift. She used just barely 2 balls to knit the 6-12 month size. The pattern is free on Ravelry & the yarn can be found here or in the shop. Come check out her sample before it gets shipped off to the lucky baby in Michigan!
New Sock Yarn
So many new things to talk about, we almost forgot all the new sock yarn that came in recently! We now carry Berroco Sox, a 75/25 blend of superwash wool and nylon, in a 440 yd ball with fun colors that do all the striping work for you.

We also received new colors in Regia sock and of course, we always keep a steady supply of Opal sock around. You can find all of them in the shop.

It's time for Casapinka Mystery KAL
WHAT WE KNOW SO FAR:

  • The name of the Mystery KAL is  The Snark-o-meter. Starring Sharon From Security, Fin from Interpol, with special appearances by Jean from I.T. and Kit Kat.

  • Begins August 14 - There are 6 Clues over a 6 week span.

  • Yarn requirements: 4 skeins of fingering weight yarn. A couple of variegated skeins is just fine, and all four as speckles are fine. Fades look great as well but will switch order.

  • Knit on US 6 needles.

  • Shape: Basic rectangle - but wider than last year's design.

  • Level: Intermediate beginner. First timers should definitely attempt and as always there are "easy" sections for an option if needed.

We put together some skeins from our latest beauties :) But come in and have fun and we'll give you a hand as needed! Or look at our fingering yarn online.
