A kind reminder that all referees 18+ must upload a current Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector at the time of registration.

If you need to submit a Referee Registrar Report, you can find it on our website here

REMINDER: Both the 2025 Outdoor and 2025 Referee seasons will not be active until the Member Organization activates it; this can be done in the season settings.

What if not enough match officials are returning?

The time to recruit more participants and book a referee clinic is now. Head over to the Saskatchewan Soccer Referee Courses   page for more information. Future referees are required to complete The Entry Level Referee Course Online Module via Smarter U (link accessible on the webpage and also via the individual Ramp account) before registering for the one day in person session. If your Member Organization has any questions, please contact Octavian at o.iliuta@sasksoccer.com

Entry Level Referee Course Online Modules

Starting in 2024, Canada Soccer has launched the new updated Entry Level Referee Online Modules. These have replaced the SSA Google Classroom approach aligning entry-level coach and referee development at the National level. The access keys for the online modules (purchased by each participant) will cost $30 for $2025 and $50 in 2026.

All eligible Referee Entry Level Clinic participants (minimum of 14 years and older) are required to complete The Online Training via Canada Soccer’s SmarterU platform before moving forward with a seven-hour in-person session to complete referee certification.

The Referee Course Registration Guide is outlined here. The Referee Entry Level Clinic process via Smarter U is available via this link. The Small Sided Referee /Futsal referee process is described here. All information is also available on the SSA Website on the Referee Courses page.

For more information on referee courses or to schedule a practical session in your community, please contact Octavian Iliuta – Manager of Referee Development @ o.iliuta@sasksoccer.com

Community Referee Education Sessions

SSA will be offering Laws of the Game Refresher online education sessions (via Zoom) to all Saskatchewan Soccer registered referees. Sessions will be approximately 1-1.5 hours and will focus on several exciting topics spread over the course of four sessions. We will explore and learn together on Laws of the Game 2024-2025 Revisions, Challenges, Offside, Handball, Tactical fouls, Dissent and even rare situations that may occur based on the Laws of the Game. You are welcome to attend all sessions or just the ones that fit your schedule.

Sessions take place, March 27, April 2, April 15, and April 24 with a 7:30 p.m. start time.

Registration is on a first come, first served basis. If you are interested, please register here. Upon registration, you will receive a confirmation email with details on how to access the session of your choice.

Referees are essential to the participant’s experience and advancement of the game. They deserve our respect and a supportive, abuse-free, environment. You can make a difference; always treat them well and thank them for their contributions every game!

Calling all individuals, groups, clubs and organizations who are doing work in the development of girls and women in sport in Saskatchewan! Sask Sport has hired Spark Solutions to develop a resource kit to support the development of girls and women to become and stay involved in sport in Saskatchewan.

The resource kits will be themed around programming for girls and women athletes, girls and women as coaches and officials, women in leadership on boards, staff, in administration and as technical leaders, and operating sustainably. The guides will incorporate the perspectives of Indigenous, Newcomer, 2SLGBTQIA+, Trans and diverse gender, and Para girls and women and will include useful information to effectively foster inclusion.

But first, we want to talk to you to learn about:

  • Your successful programs specifically for girls and women, including Para programs
  • How you’ve worked to minimize dropout as girls become teens
  • How you’ve worked to become more welcoming and friendly to girls and women and move toward gender equity
  • How you’ve worked to increase recruitment and retention of girls and women to coaching and officiating
  • How you’ve worked to promote girls and women coaches and officials to higher level technical positions
  • How you’ve worked to become more welcoming and inclusive to Indigenous girls and women or worked to decolonize your environment
  • How you’ve worked to be more welcoming and inclusive to racialized girls and women and/or newcomers to Canada
  • How you’ve become more welcoming and inclusive to individuals who are LGBTQIA2S+, Trans and/or gender diverse
  • Your initiatives to incorporate more women in paid or volunteer leadership positions
  • Great partnerships you’ve formed
