MRS. JOHNSON'S NOTES
Dear Parents,

Thank you to all the parents that attended the PTA general meeting. During the meeting, the 2021- 2022 budget was approved. If you were unable to attend, but would like to view the budget, it is posted on our webpage and a copy is at the school. The PTA executive board is available for any questions you may have. I would also like to thank the board of directors for agreeing to chair the various committees that the PTA runs. If you would like to volunteer your time, contact the PTA today.

Our first color stable dress up day is Monday! Students should dress in their color to show their school spirit. The color with the most students and staff sporting their color will win points for their team.

Do you have any gently used clothes that don’t fit anymore? Consider donating them to our clinic. Our supply of additional clothes for students that may have had an accident or got wet on the playground are running low. Drop off any donations at the front office.

Have I told you that we have the best students in the world?! We have only finished the third full week of school and our students have already read almost 19,000,000 words. This is incredible! The more we get our students reading, the more successful they will be in the classroom. Thanks for encouraging your child to read every night.

Students bringing their own devices this year (BYOD) is not necessary, because we have enough computers for each student to access one in class. Therefore, students must keep their cell phones in their bookbags during the school day and on the bus.

Attention Car Riders: I need your help. We have about 25 parents coming in after the 8:40 bell. It is causing traffic jams, as we do not have enough spots in the gravel lot. I cannot let any cars in the parking lot until the middle school bus comes around 8:50. In addition, the school day begins promptly at 8:50. If your child is arriving after 8:40, they miss all the morning work and they do not have time to get organized and ready for the day. Students are at a disadvantage when they arrive after 8:40. Please work hard to get here and provide a smooth day for your child.

Have a great weekend!

Congratulations to:
Brielle Phillips, Jimmy Zhang, Kiara Behlmann, and Miriam Holbrook for making the Million Word Club! We now have 6 students ALREADY in the Million Word Club. Keep Reading!

What is Accelerated Reading (AR)?
AR is a program that tracks the number of words students read in a school year. It is very fun and students love showing us their progress!

WHO can do AR?
AR is open as students reach a letter G reading level. Children reaching this level are automatically enrolled and will begin earning words toward the Million Word Club. Words are awarded with scores of 60% correct or more.

How does my child log into AR?
To log into AR the student can log in through their eclass course page and scroll down until they see the Accelerated Reader link by the Media Center page. The username is their student number and the password is mustangs. Or use this link and bookmark it.  https://global-zone05.renaissance-go.com/welcomeportal/310783

How do I know if a book has an AR quiz?
You can check for a quiz (and quiz number) with this site:  https://www.arbookfind.com/
Many books read at home likely have a quiz!

Can students only take quizzes at school? No, they are welcome to independently take quizzes at home OR school. At home, use this link:   https://global-zone05.renaissance-go.com/welcomeportal/310783

Can I take a quiz for my child?  You are welcome to read questions aloud to your child, but we do prefer they take quizzes independently as part of our independent reading program.

Robotics:

Information on Robotics will be in next Friday’s updates (9/3.)
Birthday Shout Outs
Birthday Shout Outs are back! Do you want to see your child's name in lights? For $25, we will wish your child a happy birthday on his/her special day. You may purchase this on mypaymentsplus. Please do not wait until the night before to purchase, because the slide must be created, and that takes time. We love birthdays here at Head ES!
