VIRTUAL VIDEO STREAMING CONFERENCE
The KBA in conjunction with the Oklahoma Broadcasters Association will present a Full Day Video Streaming Conference on January 24, 2022. High school sports is a benchmark for many radio stations and time is of the essence for broadcasters to “OWN THEIR TURF” and be the preeminent video streaming providers in the nation. Given the current intense competition for high school sports video streaming; radio as an industry must be prepared to enter next fall’s football season ready to entertain and inform their local communities through this new technology. We believe that if we miss the moment…the play-by-play we have done so admirably for over the last sixty years will be put in jeopardy.

Topics and Sessions to be discussed by experts in the field will be:

The morning session will cover:

  1. Negotiating the video rights with your High School.
  2. Dramatic Revenue generation for the broadcaster.
  3. Equipment and software necessary to video stream.
  4. Personnel necessary for a quality video stream.
  5. Alternative opportunities to video stream in your community.

The afternoon session will cover:

  1. Back-Bone operations – Internet connectivity.
  2. Equipment and software integration.
  3. Best Practices on technical production.
  4. Potential for unmanned operations- “Pay-Per-View”.
  5. Aggregated advertising opportunities as part of an integrated system.

HELP YOUR COLLEAGUES IN NEED
MAKE A TAX-DEDUCTIBLE DONATION TO THE BFOA
Debilitating diseases, life-altering accidents, or catastrophic disasters have left many of your colleagues in desperate need of assistance. A 501(c)3 charity, the Broadcasters Foundation of America’s sole mission is to provide financial assistance to your colleagues who, through no fault of their own, are in dire need of your help to pay exorbitant medical or pharmaceutical bills or to help put a roof back over their heads.

This year, more than ever, the Broadcasters Foundation of America needs your support to continue providing this vital assistance. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, major fundraisers had to be cancelled, even as more broadcasters than ever are reaching out for monthly or one-time emergency grants – and more requests come in every day!

The Broadcasters Foundation will award more than $1.8 million in monthly and one-time emergency grants this year. Monthly grants have increased 75% and more than 500 emergency grants have been awarded since 2017. Over the past 20 years, the Broadcasters Foundation has distributed more than $15 million to broadcasters in need.

In its 70 years of existence, the Broadcasters Foundation has never turned away anyone who qualified for aid, and with your generosity, we can continue to help your colleagues, who are desperate. These funds make a huge difference in the lives of your colleagues and their families.
During this time of giving please consider a tax-deductible personal contribution to the Broadcasters Foundation of America’s Guardian Fund or a corporate donation to its Angel Initiative. You can donate now by clicking HERE.
JEFF SCHMIDT'S SALES TIP OF THE WEEK

I LOVE WHERE I WORK
In a recent article in SellingPower magazine, Neil Zaman, senior vice president at Cadence shares the Triangle model. He says when followed, this model can lead to increased innovation, improved individual satisfaction, more effective communication, better decision making, and higher quality execution.  Sounds like important stuff, right?

According to Zaman, there are seven key principles for building out a team.

  1. Trust - Trust is the foundation on which all successful teams are built, and that requires Building an unwavering belief that everyone is driving toward the same strategic goals. This is the most critical component when building a high-performing team.
  2. Vision - Once you are on your way to building out your team of strong contributors, you’ll need to share a clear, simple vision that is aligned all the way to the top-line corporate strategy.
  3. Teamwork - Drive inclusion by encouraging each and every team member to bring creative ideas to the table to solve problems or provide input for important decisions.
  4. Empowerment - Team members are often more productive and perform at their peak when you get out of their way. It’s critical that team members have opportunities to grow and execute on their own.
  5. Accountability - To build accountability, establish clear goals from the top down that can be measured with each individual – and have regular check-ins to track key milestones.
  6. Execution - Instead of being paralyzed by planning and analysis, remind the team of your shared vision and push them to execute on it. Instead of complacency, develop an agile and customer-focused approach.
  7. Reward - Money isn’t always the answer. Sometimes just giving someone the credit in front of a group can go a long way. With repeat successes, you can look at opportunities to expand your team members’ responsibilities and consider promotions. The recognition can be very motivating and fuels the continued success of the individual, the team, and the broader company.

These are by no means new concepts, but I like the way Zaman has organized them with the visual of a triangle reaching the peak, or peak performance.  What do you think?
