"True Colors: Celebrating and Supporting LGBT+ Community"
Next week is National Coming Out Day. This Sunday, October 3rd, we will explore sexual orientation and gender identity, how the Fellowship can be even more welcoming of queer people, why pronouns matter, why sexual and gender diversities enrich us all, and how straight, cisgender people can be better allies. Rev. Debra has been an activist for LGBTQ equality for more than 40 years and founded Reston Pride in her community.

Making Peace with Our Mothers
A theme-focused virtual discussion group facilitated by UUF members Wendy Wyckoff and Louise Bettner
In everyday conversation, many of us express curiosity about unresolved issues with our mothers. Sometimes these conflicts arise from hurtful early childhood experiences or family distress. Not infrequently they stem from the difficult lives our parents endured. As children, we hardly understood the wider context for these unresolved issues. However, as we age we often seek forgiveness, for our mothers and ourselves. This discussion group will give us a chance to share feelings, memories and conflicts about our mothers, hopefully coming to a better understanding and a sense of peace. Maximum group size: 10
Remaining dates: Alternate Wednesdays from 1:00 to 2:30 pm on 10/13, 10/27, 11/10, 11/24

Supportive Energy Healing
Taught by Reiki Practitioner, Health Coach and UUF member Amy Alison Taylor
There are many helpful practices that may empower us to face illness with hope and grace. Emerging ideas born of a marriage between science and alternative healing methods may offer surprising and effective tools for creating well-being in the midst of the pandemic. In this Zoom series of three classes with three follow-up check-in classes to practice what we’ve learned and ask questions, students will learn new and ancient healing methods, simple meditations, self-assessment tools, and nutritional practices to help the body stay strong against viruses. Many of the methods presented stem from traditional healing practices re-examined and enhanced by a scientific point of view. Bring your curiosity to class as we learn together to engage with life in a new way
Sundays 4:00 to 6:00pm
10/3 How to find out what your body's particular needs are
10/24 How to support others who are ill
Once we meet in class, we will arrange a few times when we can practice our new skills together in between our class meetings.

September Shared Plate Recipient
Jewish Family and community Services (JFCS) to support Afghani Refugees
Our Shared Plate for September will support Afghani refugees fleeing violence and persecution. The funds will help individuals and families find dignity and welcome as they find shelter in the Bay Area. This work is possible through Jewish Family and Community Services (JFCS), which has for decades served immigrants and refugees from across the world.
In the past few weeks, JFCS welcomed more than 40 people, with many more anticipated in the week ahead. More people also need to relocate to safety. With support, our communities can be ready.
