  • Preparing for the Worst: Lessons Learned from the Aftermath of Community Crises: Communities across Colorado have recently faced a number of challenging events. Natural disasters like wildfires and flooding, mass shootings, and other events have resulted in community-wide needs and trauma that persist long after the initial disaster response. When community disasters occur people naturally want to give to support their neighbors. Colleagues from other parts of Colorado have learned a lot about the challenges of dealing with the aftermath of community emergencies and the role of private philanthropy in the recovery. As a step toward preparing for such inevitabilities, the Yampa Valley Community Foundation and Routt County United Way are joining forces to develop an action plan for longer term disaster relief. We invite you to join us to hear lessons learned from regional leaders who have experienced a community crisis firsthand on March 14 from 12:00-1:30 pm at Routt County United Way, 443 Oak Street: Brinkman Conference Room and Zoom. RSVP to Helen@yvcf.org.
  • Have you heard? The Routt County Commissioners have a monthly roundtable discussion on the radio. Find this month's on Steamboat Radio. Next month we'd like to feature questions from our listeners. What questions do you have for the commissioners? Email info@co.routt.co.us.

One Fun Thing
The legendary lost ship Endurance was found — in remarkably good condition — 10,000 feet underwater off the Antarctic Coast, where it sank in 1915, National Geographic announced this morning.

  • Why it matters: This is one of history's most famous shipwrecks. Irish explorer Sir Ernest Shackleton, trying to reach the South Pole, abandoned the wooden Endurance after it was trapped in ice. The ship was crushed by ice and sank.

National Geographic will air a documentary about the search and discovery this fall as part of the "Explorer" series.
