A New Year, A New You? January 6, 2023

A new year often brings with it new ideas for self-improvement. The Caring Place can relate. As a nonprofit in a growing community, The Caring Place has some self-improvement and self-reflection goals for 2023 as well! However, today, we hope to help you with YOUR inspirational journey. Here are a few nuggets you might want to think about as you make 2023 awesome:

  • Know your values. Live them!
  • Lighten your load;
  • Do something to help others and make your heart happy.

In this newsletter, we will share a little about what we know about these three things at The Caring Place. If these ideas are on your radar too, we hope you'll consider utilizing The Caring Place as a place to live out your goals for 2023. We can help!

And most of all, we wish you a happy and healthy new year. Your support has blessed people in our community more than words can say. Thank you!

Blessings,

Ginna O'Connor

Executive Director

Fill Your Heart

There are lots of reasons why people volunteer. My favorite thing is when our volunteers say, "Volunteering fills my heart." This means different things to different people.

How Do You Give in 2023?

If you are currently planning your 2023 monetary gifts, we encourage you to participate in the Amplify "I Live Here I Give Here" campaign. The Caring Place is participating with matching funds again, and we look forward to letting you know when you can start giving to our biggest fundraiser of the year. (Think February!)

If giving locally and making the most out of every donation is important to you, then this is the fundraiser to watch.

Do you have questions about the upcoming Amplify campaign? Contact Rita Turner at rturner@caringplacetx.org or 512-943-0702.

Need Help in 2023?

Sometimes a new year is when we realize we could use a little extra support. The overwhelm of a crisis during the holiday season can be stressful for some families. The Caring Place can assist with:

  • Food;
  • Rent;
  • Utilities;
  • Transportation;
  • And other resources which can offer stability or a safety net during a rough season.

Since 1985, The Caring Place has provided for the basic human needs of all people in our Central Texas community in a welcoming, respectful and caring way. The Caring Place service area includes Georgetown, Andice, Bartlett, Florence, Granger, Jarrell, Jonah, Schwertner, Walburg, Weir, and the portion of Hutto that lies within GISD. If you need assistance and live in this service area, you can request help online at caringplacetx.org/gethelp.

Anything New in The Thrift Stores?

If you frequent our stores or Social Media, you probably know there is ALWAYS something new in our thrift stores. This "Medical Supply List" is actually not new, but it may feel fresh since we keep these medical-type items in our warehouse due to space. We have the following items at The Shops at The Caring Place at 2000 Railroad Avenue:

  • Crutches, $8
  • Shower chair, $8-$15
  • Walker, $12
  • Walker w/wheels & seat, $35+
  • Toilet chairs, $12
  • Wheelchairs, $25+
  • Canes, $5-$8

Ask for staff if you need one of these items. We hope this is an affordable resource if you find yourself in need of these items.

Both of our thrift stores are open to the public. We offer affordable clothing, housewares, and furniture, but we also have a great deal of vintage, antique, stylish and unique items. The purchase of all items supports our mission to provide for the basic human needs of all people in our community in a welcoming, respectful and caring way.
