“If I encounter patients in the LGBTQ+ community who need or want to hear about hospice care, I want to be the one to escort them into our services with the utmost dignity and make sure they get the special care and attention they need,” says Nancy Auster, RN, an admission liaison at VITAS® Healthcare.
For more than three decades, VITAS has maintained an active, visible presence as an LGBTQ+-friendly hospice provider and source of community support throughout Florida, from its early 1980s care protocols for HIV/AIDS patients, to ongoing grief support in the aftermath of the 2016 Orlando Pulse Nightclub shooting.
VITAS provides education, resources, training, and grief support groups for the LGBTQ+ population. For healthcare professionals, free VITAS continuing education addresses best practices for LGBTQ+ care and ways to overcome patients’ unique concerns about medical care.

EPCF provides excellence in medical care, leadership and vision in emergency medicine, and excels at medical education.
