May the Lord fill your heart with trust and hope
In unimaginable possibilities for the future.
May the example of Jesus inspire you to live out that trust.
May the Holy Spirit guide you in the tiny choices you make.
And may your lives be nourished by knowing that
the Kingdom of God is, indeed, at hand.

Show your Pride! We’ll have photo-ready Pride flags set up on the front lawn for National Coming Out Day(s). Pastor Margery Rossi will be on hand to take your photos and talk about your spiritual questions. Stop into the office on Tuesday for a rainbow lapel ribbon and a sweet treat to celebrate the wondrous diversity of our divine creator that you bring to the world!
Sunday, October 30: All Saints and All Souls Day
Sunday, October 30th, at 10:00 a.m. we'll observe All Saints and All Souls Day. You are invited to bring a photo of a loved one who has passed on, or any other memento which symbolizes that person and the role they've had in your life. These items will form our "altar" during the service. We will lift up in prayer the names of those we've lost - and acknowledge that the communion we've shared, though changed, continues.

Sending Love and Prayers ~ Joe and Betty Anne Cook
Linda Jo Platt received the following email from Betty Anne Cook regarding her husband Joe, who was our much-loved Fellowship Hall greeter for many years.
Excerpt from Betty Anne's email
We belong to the University Presbyterian Church in Chapel Hill, but have never developed the sense of belonging we had at South. I do want to let whoever is there who may remember us to know of Joe’s final illness. I’m enclosing a note he sent out to friends and colleagues in August, followed by one I sent.

Good friends,
After two long remissions, my leukemia has returned with a vengeance, so I will enter hospice. I want you to know how important your advice, guidance, friendship has been to me –a few defeats, some victories but good humor all the way. You have enriched my life.
Many thanks to you and Godspeed,
Joe

Dear Friends,
Many of you know that Joe has been fighting leukemia for over 3 years, during which he was in remission twice. The chemo is no longer working and he has progressed to acute myeloid leukemia. This weekend he entered an at-home hospice program. He will remain in our apartment as long as possible.
We have had 58 years of a happy, solid marriage. Although he had a successful and fruitful career his heart has always been with his family. Our three daughters and their families are within 10, 20 and 25 minutes from us and can show him daily the love and support he has always given us.
With love and gratitude for your friendship,
Betty Anne Cook
