Annual General Meeting (AGM)

The Law Society of Alberta's AGM will be held on Thursday, Dec. 2, 2021 by videoconference commencing at 11 a.m.

The 2020 Annual General Meeting Minutes.
A copy of the Law Society of Alberta financial statements for the year ended Dec. 31, 2020
A copy of the Alberta Lawyers Indemnity Association (ALIA) financial statements for the year ended Dec. 31, 2020 and financial statements for the period ended June 30, 2021 in accordance with ALIA’s new fiscal year-end.
Special Rules of Order for the 2021 Annual General Meeting. In accordance with Rule 3(2) of the Rules of the Law Society of Alberta, the Benchers approved a variation to the provisions of subrule 33(2) for the Annual General Meeting, with this variation to expire at the adjournment of the meeting. Legislative procedures for the meeting can be found under Section 27 of the Legal Profession Act.

If you want to attend the AGM you must pre-register here by 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 29, 2021. Once registered, you will receive an email from “Governance Meetings” on Dec. 1, 2021 with the meeting link. If you do not receive your email meeting link by 11 a.m. on Dec. 1, please check your email junk folder and if you still cannot find it contact Governance.

Queen's Counsel Timing Update

The Queen's Counsel application period closed in November and all completed applications will be reviewed by the Queen’s Counsel Screening Committee. Historically, the Queen’s Counsel recipients are announced by the Alberta Government on Dec. 31; however, the Screening Committee is not concluding their meetings to review applications until early-February 2022, therefore the announcement will not be made by government until later in the Spring.

The awarding of the Queen’s Counsel designation is solely within the discretion of the Lieutenant Governor in Council.
