In a Landscape: Classical Music in the Wild
On Sunday, September 25th, 4:30 p.m., Maupin will welcome pianist Hunter Noack for a very special outdoor concert on the banks of the Deschutes. Dubbed a “soundtrack to your outdoor experience” Hunter’s ’In a Landscape’ series selects places of rich natural beauty as the backdrop for an immersive listening experience whereby music is transmitted to the audience via wireless headphones (which are provided). The result is an audience free to move about and explore the landscape as they listen - creating a rich & unique concert experience. In a Landscape events are offered primarily in rural communities with a portion of tickets given free for local residents. This show was originally scheduled for June 30th, but due to Covid, was postponed. We're so glad it is happening during our Maupin 100 Finale weekend!

Local Careers Event, 'South Wasco Connect' Happening Oct. 1st
The South Wasco Alliance, Maupin Area Chamber of Commerce, Maupin Works, and the South Wasco High School are co-sponsoring South Wasco Connect, an event that will connect business owners, tradespeople, craftsmen, small farmers, ranchers, entrepreneurs, resource providers, and regional partners with each other, local area students, and the greater South Wasco community.
South Wasco Connect is an event that is part of a long-term effort to improve the economic well- being of communities in South Wasco County. The aim is to bring together the many talents, shared interests, and community or regional and state-level assets we have available, but that often go unrealized or underutilized because our communities are separated by large geographic distances, and we do not have easy access to each other or to outside resources.
We are inviting business, agency, financial, educational, and industry sector partners to South Wasco Connect to share knowledge, opportunities, resources, and ideas with our community and each other. This event is part of an ongoing effort sponsored in the area since 2019 (by the South Wasco Alliance) and again in 2021 (by Maupin Works, in partnership with the current co- sponsoring organizations). By making these important connections, we know that we can create a stronger workforce support network in our area and begin to build a more accessible and sustainable local economy.
When and Where Will This Happen?
South Wasco Connect is happening Saturday, October 1, 2022, at the Maupin Civic Center, 507 Grant Avenue, Maupin, Oregon 97037. Open hours are 12:00-1:00PM for students and 1:00- 4:00PM for the general public (including students).
If you would like to showcase your business, trade or industry or otherwise participate in this event, please email: coordinator@maupinoregon.com

Maupin Daze & Maupin Madness Recap
|
Maupin Daze was a roaring success this year. The parade was bigger than ever thanks to our local businesses!! And there were hundreds of spectators gathered at Kaiser park, the most Mayor Lynn Ewing says he's ever seen. We were blessed with beautiful weather after weeks of cooler temps and the positive energy in the crowd was palpable! Delson Suppah Jr., a local storyteller from Warm Springs, shared an indigenous historical perspective of Maupin and Tygh Valley to an appreciative audience. There was music and dancing. The chamber kicked off our special Maupin 100 merchandise and had a busy booth all day long. Maupin is out there folks - walking around the world on shirts, hats and hoodies!
|
Our fantastic motorcycle rally, Maupin Madness gathered for its 9th year on June 11th. Registrations were up 30% from the previous year, despite less than perfect weather. The event draws riders from all over Oregon and Washington and is earning its mark as a favorite in the PNW rally circuit. We had 4 routes this year which is a great way to show off all the nooks. crannies and places "off the beaten path" you can explore in and around South Wasco County. We also offered more fun and activities after the ride which helped to keep people in town. Plans are already underway for the 10th anniversary in 2023!

Welcome to New Members of the
Maupin Area Chamber of Commerce!
Liferaft Pantry: Liferaft Pantry in Maupin opened in 2020 when an increase in local food insecurity was observed by local service providers. Volunteers started with food box distributions and the program grew from there. Life Raft is supported by the Columbia Gorge Food Bank and receives funding through grants in order to keep their operations running. They are open every Thursday from 10-6 and the pantry is located at 403 5th St. in Maupin.
Maupin Outdoor Store: Maupin Outdoor is the brainchild of entrepreneur and owner Holly Henderson, who relocated from Portland to Maupin after years of coming here for recreation. Henderson is an outdoor enthusiast, cyclist, and jewelry artist with extensive customer service experience. The fusion of these passions led to the idea for Maupin Outdoor! The retail store located between the Oasis Cabins and the Riverside on Highway 197, offers gear and equipment for sale and rent, and upstairs is a workshop space for jewelry classes. Inventory ranges from tents and cooking supplies to must have outdoor accessories for your fur baby. Holly worked with the local Columbia Gorge Small Business Development Center and the Mid-Columbia Economic Development District to obtain the training and funding to get started. Read more about Maupin Outdoor in this article from MCEDD.
Bakeoven Bar & Grill: Bakeoven Bar & Grill is the fresh face of food service at the Imperial River Company. Hearty and creative fare in the most picturesque dining room in Maupin! Salads, burgers, sandwiches, wraps and plenty options to quench your thirst too! Check out their menu here. Bakeoven Bar & Grill is located at 304 Bakeoven Road, (541) 506-1731. Open Wednesday - Sunday.

New 'History' Page on MACC Website for Maupin 100
We are happy to announce that a brand new History page on the MACC website is now live. We wanted to put the 10 images from our Maupin 100 campaign into words, giving some insight into what is represented in the artwork. This became a collaborative effort with community members submitting content. We see this as a living document and work in progress, and invite edits or suggestions to make the stories as accurate as possible. We're glad to be sharing more of our local history with the world via this new webpage!
And to those who volunteered their writing and storytelling talent - THANK YOU - we could not have done this project without you!
P.S. This isn't the only recent improvement to the website... have a look around while you're there! We are updating our content & language on the site in an effort to bring more awareness to the broad geographical area and diverse range of businesses that the Maupin Area Chamber of Commerce represents.
