NEWS

Greenway to Make Improvements to the Albany-Hudson Electric Trail

This Spring, the Greenway will begin paving nine and a half miles of the Albany-Hudson Electric Trail (AHET), located in Columbia County. The asphalt will replace the current stone dust trail resulting in a safer surface for riders and walkers. The project will also address sections of the trail that have ongoing erosion issues.

In December 2020, as part of the Empire State Trail project, HRVG completed the construction of AHET with a combination of paved and stone dust sections. Since then, the Greenway was awarded support from the New York State Environmental Bond Act to finish paving the entire trail section.

This effort will result in AHET becoming a continuously paved 36-mile rail trail. Construction is projected to begin in mid-spring and be completed by the end of summer. Throughout this period, there will be select trail closures, generally occurring between road crossings. Please be sure to check our website for current updates.

Please contact us at hrvg@hudsongreenway.ny.gov to learn more about the Greenway and the AHET paving project. READ THE FULL PROJECT SUMMARY >>.
