Faith community pours their hearts into helping local kids
Georgianna Church has a mission to be a beacon of light for all people. Feeding children at risk of hunger each year at local schools truly puts lightness in the steps of kids on Friday afternoons, knowing that they at least have food to sustain them through the weekend. On behalf of our staff and board of directors at TCHP and especially on behalf of the children we serve, we wanted to say THANK YOU to the Georgianna family for your continued support!
I spent some time recently reflecting on all that Georgianna has done for the children of our county.
Thank you to Pastor Corky who speaks with passion on behalf of TCHP. When he was not able to attend an event, he made a video on behalf on Georgianna!
Chris and Melody and all of the Georgianna volunteers stay the course, to helping feed local children - a wonderful example of the caring and generosity of the faith community.
Earlier this year, we received an unbelievable gift from Georgianna - that gift currently provides an entire school years’ worth of weekend nutrition for over 300 students.
Over the years, Georgianna's financial support ensured that over 1,200 students received food packages for an entire school year! That is almost 50,000 weekend packages of food!
Before the pandemic, TCHP was serving 2400 children weekly. When the pandemic hit and the schools shut down, we went from 2,400 to almost 6,000 packages weekly almost overnight as we stood alongside BPS on Fridays, handing out our weekend packs to those in need. Georgianna stood alongside us. Chris Rodriguez and her team of volunteers started by packing 600 packages weekly and delivering them to 3 schools (Mims, Oak Park and Cambridge), then increased to 1,000 weekly, distributing to two additional schools, Golfview and Riviera.
During Covid, the congregation packed almost 20,000 packets, and has been behind the scenes ever since!
Georgianna is the model to encourage other churches to get involved. Every two weeks we drop off food supplies to Georgianna so that their wonderful volunteers can pack the food packages and then deliver 185 weekend food packages each week to Cambridge Elementary in Cocoa. Georgianna helps us get weekend food into the hands of children that need it.
Over the years, the impact that the Georgianna family has made on our efforts to end childhood hunger in Brevard is staggering…On behalf of the thousands of children that we serve, thank you Georgianna!

Unprecedented
We started this school year August 15th feeding 2,900 children. Typically, requests from schools for more food packages increases gradually. We now serve over 3,500 children, a dramatic increase. Here's a link to the recent story in FLORIDA TODAY highlighting the growing need in Brevard, and local organizations that strive to meet that need. Here is an opinion piece by TCHP founder Bob Barnes - the problem of child hunger is solvable. PLEASE CONSIDER BECOMING A MONTHLY DONOR OF ANY AMOUNT.
More Church Communities that Support our Kids
Ascension Catholic Church and School
Ascension Catholic Church has a mission of mercy and love. It’s these foundational words that provide nourishment in the form of weekend meals for kids at risk of hunger in Brevard. They support children at both Creel and Croton Elementary Schools. Ascension parishioners have donated over $100,000 to support feeding hungry kids locally! They purchase the food from us, hold packings at their own church, and their volunteers deliver to the schools. Ascension also includes TCHP as a speaker to spread awareness. Many thanks to Father John and to the Ewing family for their ongoing support on behalf of hungry kids in Brevard.
St. John the Evangelist
St. John the Evangelist Catholic Community, a longtime supporter of TCHP, recently held a Council of Catholic Women fundraising luncheon for TCHP to help feed our kids! As a place that has made TCHP feel completely at home, St John’s hosted our 10 year Anniversary Evening of Gratitude, Love a Kid Luncheon, held a Walkathon in support of TCHP, participates in the yearly Health First Fight Child Hunger 5K and has packed 5,000 food packs the past few years. Heartfelt thanks to Father John and the congregation!
Eastminster Presbyterian Church
Known as the church on the river with a lot of heart, Eastminster is long recognized in our community as a loving church that cares, responding to needs and opportunities in their community. They have certainly been there for our kids!
Linda Hollington from Eastminster Presbyterian is pictured with Cheryl Cominsky and Sawyer Charters today presenting a check to help feed more children.
TCHP was invited to a recent Volunteer Fair with the goal of spreading the word about our organization and encouraging volunteers to sign up.
One of the favorite Eastminster bible quotes is, "Like good stewards of the manifold grace of God, serve one another with whatever gift each of you has received."
TCHP FAITH SUPPORTERS
We would like to share our roster of local churches that support TCHP kids, or have done so in the past. If we are missing anybody, please let us know so we can add to our growing list of faith supporters. You truly make a difference in the lives of children, locally!
