SPECIAL NEWS AND INFORMATION

SERMON NOTES

What does it look like when our compassion becomes action? This is the central question to what we have been studying the past few weeks. And this week, we come to another one of those tricky to define words: Love. We talk about love a lot in the church, but what does it mean to live a life marked and shaped by love? Join us this week as we explore the ways that Jesus loved us and the world, so that we can follow by example. Because for Jesus, love is rarely about the words we say.

Yours in Christ

Brandon

HOLIDAY CRAFTING PROJECT ASSISTANCE

The Growth Committee is tasked with creating ornaments and decorations for one of the many Christmas Trees in King Commons this holiday season.  We can decorate our assigned tree between November 25-30 but must be finished by 4 pm before the lighting on the 30th.  In order to have everything ready by the deadline several crafting times are being scheduled in early November.

Since we are a "green" church, we will be making decorations from all natural and/or recycled items. But we need your assistance in gathering these items for us to use in their making.  We hope that you can bring the following items to church THIS coming Sunday, November 3rd, so we can prepare things and be ready for our crafting sessions on Sunday, November 10th following worship and Wednesday, November 13th at noon, as well as another time if needed. If you would like to help create these ornaments at either of these times, please bring a light lunch or snack with you.

If you have any questions, please contact Linda Brashear.

THE ITEMS NEEDED ARE: milkweed pods; large pine cones; twigs (roughly 3/8 - 1/2 inch in diameter and at least 1 foot long); empty white bleach bottles; and empty green aluminum cans (Sprite, Ginger Ale, etc.)

Jesus, Interrupted: Revealing the Contradictions of the Bible (And Why We Don’t Know About Them)

By Bart D. Ehrman (220.6/EHR)

In this New York Times bestseller, leading Bible expert Bart Ehrman skillfully demonstrates that the New Testament is riddled with contradictory views about who Jesus was and the significance of his life. Ehrman reveals that many of the books were written in the names of the apostles by Christians living decades later, and that central Christian doctrines were the inventions of still later theologians. Although this has been the standard and widespread view of scholars for two centuries, most people have never learned of it.

Jesus, Interrupted is a clear and compelling account of the central challenges we have when attempting to reconstruct the life and meaning of Jesus.
