Emerging from the Pandemic: Finding a New Balance
Yom Kippur Day, 1:45pm
We will read the rich Talmudic story of Rabbi Shimon bar Yochai and his son as they hid from the Romans for thirteen years in a cave. As they emerged, their zeal about the way the world “ought to be” blinded them until they learned better. Rabbi Spilker will lead this participatory text-study.

An Ancient Sukkot Gathering Ritual Every 7 Years: Hakhel!
October 10, 10:00 am
After services, enjoy mini-Nothing Bundt Cakes! Why? Because it is fun, and Sukkot is all about JOY! (Gluten-free, dairy free options will be served).
After the shemita year (the sabbatical year which occurs every seven years), the ancient Israelites gathered (Hakhel) on Sukkot morning as a community to hear the message of Torah. It was actually the only time every person – woman, man, child, stranger – was REQUIRED to attend a community gathering. At Mount Zion, we will simply invite you! As part of our Festival Service, we will have a ritual recitation of the Torah distinct from the celebration of Torah on Simchat Torah. Please join us!

In the Community
- MnMN's 2022 Annual Conference - Sacred Creation in Crisis: Strengthening the multifaith response in Minnesota MnMN is gathering Minnesota’s faith leaders and practitioners, multifaith activists, scholars, community leaders, and artists on October 12 to celebrate and express our reverence for creation, learn from each other’s wisdom, and find common ground for acting together. This year’s conference, “Sacred Creation in Crisis: Strengthening the Multifaith Response in Minnesota,” supports the United Nations (UN) declaration that “access to a clean, healthy and sustainable environment is a universal human right.” Faith leaders and interfaith organization leaders will have separate spaces over lunch to discuss how to work together for climate justice. The conference is being planned in cooperation with Minnesota Interfaith Power & Light. Register here
