Dear Northwest Families,
I would like to begin this letter by thanking our families and our community for all of the love and support that has been shown to the Hicks’ family and our district over the past few weeks. It has been an honor to step in as Acting Superintendent and to see firsthand the care and compassion that our community embodies.
With hard work and the support of their families and teachers, our students are doing an exceptional job and achieving top marks in a variety of areas.
At our most recent school board meeting, for example, we recognized Byron Nelson High School’s Yashica Sai Sadam for earning a perfect score on her AP English Language and Composition exam. To put into perspective just how impressive a feat that is, she’s one of just 22 students in the entire world to earn a perfect score! Our students are also doing remarkable things in athletics and fine arts. I would encourage you to view our athletic calendar and fine arts calendar to see when you can support them.
Next Friday, October 7, will mark the end of our first grading period (don’t forget it is also an early-release day!), and I am extremely proud of teachers and our students. Great educators are at the heart of everything we do, so please consider taking time to thank all of our teachers, administrators, and support staff for their hard work towards the success of all of our students.
Making sure our families are aware of what is happening across our district so that you can be actively involved and show your support is very important to us. I would like to share a brief update of important events coming up:
-
Band Showcase: I know I mentioned fine arts events earlier, but please come check out the third annual Northwest ISD Band Showcase at 7 p.m. this coming Monday, October 3, at Northwest ISD Stadium! All our middle and high school bands will perform, and it’s a great showcase of the talent we have in our schools. Tickets are available at this link or at the gate.
-
Superintendent Search: With the passing of Dr. Hicks, our school board has begun a new search for our next superintendent of schools. Their plan is to have someone in place at the beginning of the second semester. Expect additional information as soon as it becomes available.
-
Long-Range Planning Committee: If you haven’t heard, we’re growing – a lot! Next school year, we will open five campuses, and our Long-Range Planning Committee led by community members is already hard at work determining our district needs to keep pace with growth and prevent campus overcrowding. Based on projections, this likely means a new elementary school per year, multiple middle schools, and our fourth comprehensive high school. Follow the committee’s progress at www.nisdtxlrpc.org.
-
Facebook Live: Dr. Warren may have retired, but Facebook Live continues! I plan to host a Facebook Live at 6 p.m. Wednesday, October 26, with Tim McClure, our assistant superintendent for facilities, regarding the start of our school year as well as updates from the Long-Range Planning Committee to explain what the committee does and where we’re seeing the most growth. While you may not hear either of us say the phrase “for the love of corn”, we will take some time to answer questions from our community, so please join us live if you are able.
Thank you for everything you do to support our students! Have a great weekend!
Sincerely,
Michael Griffin, Ed.D.
Acting Superintendent of Schools

Sinceramente,
Michael Griffin, Ed.D.
