Environmental Justice Blog
Collaboration with University of Denver Sturm College of Law The Environment at 5280
SDSG and the University of Denver (DU) Sturm College of Law's The Environment at 5280 blog collaborated to launch a new blog theme on Environmental Justice. SDSG Intern Sarah Brusseau drafted and SDSG Board Member Nadia Ahmad reviewed two posts for the blog, both featuring content from the American Bar Association Section of Civil Rights and Social Justice Black History Month series.

The first blog in the Environmental Justice series is focused on Systematic Racism and Environmental Justice and the second is focused on Climate Effects on Communities of Color. Access the blog posts here and suggest new blog topics to [email protected]. A huge thank you to Sarah and the many wonderful students at DU Law who make this blog possible!
New Collection of Community Development Requirements for Mining Launched
Online Resource Aims to Improve Research and Policymaking
SDSG, the International Institute for Environment and Development (IIED), and Columbia Center on Sustainable Investment (CCSI) have launched a free public collection of community development laws and agreements for the mining sector. The collection includes almost 300 pieces of legislation from 54 countries in an interactive map and searchable online database. Users can explore data by country, name, and language. All documents can be downloaded in PDF format.

Researchers, policymakers, civil society and the general public can now access community development laws and agreements from around the world related to the mining sector in one place. The objective of the online resource is to inform research and debate about policy design and improve local development outcomes in the mining sector.

SDSG is grateful to our Board Member IIED Senior Natural Resource Researcher Brendan Schwartz and to CCSI Senior Legal Researcher Tehtena Mebratu-Tsegaye for collaboration with our Executive Director Kristi Disney Bruckner in leadership of this project. SDSG's Ashley Smith-Roberts and Taylor Hannegan made remarkable contributions to this research. This work also wouldn't be possible without the extraordinary support of SDSG Interns spanning multiple years, including Sarah Brusseau, Daimeon Shanks, Wendy Kerner, Kelsey Covert, and Heather Colby. Thank you!

Please read and share the news stories on the launch, available in English here, Spanish here, and French here.

Share additional ideas and materials for this resource, which will be updated as our research continues, by emailing the project leads [email protected]; [email protected]; [email protected].
