Roslyn Public Schools

SUPERINTENDENT OF SCHOOLS

March 1, 2022

Dear Roslyn Families,

Effective tomorrow, Wednesday March 2, 2022, masks will be OPTIONAL at Roslyn School District.

Based on the Governor’s reliance on the CDC and absent further guidance from the State Education Department (SED) and New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH), there is an understanding that masks will be optional on school buses beginning Wednesday, March 2, 2022. We will provide you with further information and updates as per any further guidance received.

For some this will be a welcome change, for others it might produce anxiety. Please instruct your child on whether they are to wear a mask or not, with the understanding that it is now a personal family choice.

Going forward, we expect everyone to be civil with one another. Mask-bullying—in either direction—will not be accepted. Students must show respect for the choices of others. Be reminded that some students have never experienced a school day without a mask, so let’s all help each other navigate to a place of compassion.

Other mitigation protocols, such as keeping windows open, bringing lessons outdoors in good weather, promoting the frequent washing of hands, and asking students to stay home if they are sick, remain in effect.

We will continue to follow the medical guidance offered to us by our district physician, nursing staff, and the New York State Department of Health. We will also continue to monitor the situation and report data to the Roslyn community as it becomes available to us, particularly if we see an increase in transmission or positive testing.

The District will continue to distribute test kits for home use as long as supplies last. If you are in need of one, please call the main office of your child’s school to schedule a pick up time.

As spring nears, staff and faculty are putting preparations in place for a return to the wonderful, traditional events that surround a typical academic year, such as field trips, live events, and in-person meetings.

Our lives have been impacted in so many ways for the past two years. I wish to commend the Roslyn Board of Education for their thoughtful leadership, the faculty and staff for their perseverance, the community for their cooperation, and our students for their grit.

Thank you, Roslyn for working together and always supporting our students.

Sincerely,

Allison Brown
