Learn more about the proposed new
Clifton Branch at public Open House Dec. 7
An open house to present initial plans and gather community feedback about the proposed new Clifton Branch is scheduled from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 7, at Rocky Mountain Elementary School, 3260 D 1/2 Road in Clifton, in the school's library/media center.

As envisioned, the new library would be part of a Mesa County community center campus planned for construction next to the school. Mesa County Libraries have developed initial plans for the library that could move forward if an agreement on the site is finalized with the county.

At the open house, visitors can view library floor plans and amenities, share thoughts and ideas about Clifton's identity, and ask questions. County staff will also be present to answer questions about the community center campus.

For those attending the open house, access to the school's library/media center will be in the front of the building near the parking lot (but not the main doors). Signs and staff will be present to direct attendees to the correct meeting area.

Learn your rights as a tenant/renter
in a Renter's Rights Workshop
Four public information sessions outlining the rights of renters are scheduled in December at various Mesa County Libraries locations.

There have been several important changes in the past year to the law concerning evictions, a landlord’s obligation to maintain a residence, late fees, rent increases, and unlawful evictions.

These presentations aim to educate tenants on what their rights are under the new laws as well as include an overview on the eviction process in Colorado.

Presentations will be given by Andrea Rosenberry, a staff attorney at Colorado Legal Services who practices in family law, bankruptcy, consumer law, elder law, and landlord tenant law. Please be aware that we will not be able to provide case-specific answers or legal advice to individuals.

Topics in the presentations include:
  • When a landlord is required to make repairs.
  • Getting your landlord to make repairs.
  • When you should and should not withhold rent.
  • What late fees your landlord can charge.
  • How long you have to pay late rent before a judgment is issued against you.
  • Penalties for landlords who violate the law regarding late fees and unlawful evictions.
  • The court process for an eviction including steps along the way and what actions to take.
  • When and how your landlord can raise your rent.
  • Discriminatory housing practices.

This presentation will be offered at four different times and locations:
