AGRICULTURE & NATURAL RESOURCES

Avian Influenza Awareness

UDAF officials are asking for the public's help in preventing the further spread of Avian Influenza, as it is expected that cases will increase during the fall migration of wild waterfowl. Currently, Sanpete County is experiencing devastating cases that severely impact the area's turkey populations. It is expected that more cases will appear in the coming months.

All domestic bird owners should be vigilant in watching for signs of the disease and increasing biosecurity measures for their flocks. If possible, birds should be

kept locked inside enclosures to avoid contact with migratory birds. Flocks

should not have shared water, feed, or grazing sources with wild bird habitats. Please see the attached checklist to ensure your biosecurity practices are sufficient. Indicators of HPAI in avian flocks are high death loss, nasal discharge, decreased appetite or water consumption, and lack of coordination in birds. If birds are experiencing any of these symptoms, they should be reported to the state veterinarian immediately at statevet@utah.gov. For more information, visit https://ag.utah.gov/hpai/."

Extending the Garden Season

Many homeowners have the dream of growing fresh vegetables year-round. Unfortunately, in colder climates, this is only possible using a complete greenhouse with supplemental heating/cooling and lights. However, there are practical, less expensive ways to obtain self-grown produce earlier and later in the growing season using season-extending techniques.

How can couples manage issues caused by pornography?

Pornography use commonly causes issues in couple relationships, such as reduced trust, relationship quality, and long-term sexual quality (Leonhardt et al., 2019; Newstrom & Harris, 2016; Perry, 2016). If couples believe that pornography use is negatively affecting their relationship, what can they do to manage these issues?

How to obtain your Jr. Livestock Check (4-H Portfolio):

In order to receive your check from the Jr. Livestock Sale, you must submit a 4-H portfolio. If you are a returning 4-H member, the format is the same as last year. Update your resume and cover letter to include this year’s information and then upload it to Zsuites (4h.zsuite.org). You will need to re-active your membership on Zsuites before you can upload. If the members name says “in-active” click on the member and click “re-enroll”

If this is your first year, you will need to create both a resume and cover letter that details your 4-H experience. It is okay if you have little experience, it will grow over the coming years!
