A Message From Our Visiting Minister

Deuteronomy is Moses’s final speech to the people he led across the wilderness.

He led them to the Promised Land but was not going to lead them into the Promised Land. The leadership into the promised land was handed over to Joshua. In Moses’s final words he affirms the promise of God that God has prepared a way forward for the people that will enable them to thrive. However, it also tells them that they must make conscious choices about their lives in order to receive the gifts God has promised to them.

About Rev. Dr. Andy Mangum

Andy Mangum is the Regional Minister and President of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in the Southwest—A position he has held since 2017. Prior to joining the Regional Staff, Andy served 20 years as a local church pastor In Arlington, Irving, and DeSoto and 5 years as a Youth Minister in Weatherford and Amarillo.

Andy is married to Lori, an educational diagnostician. They are the parents of Madison Coleman (married to Taylor) an eighth grade English teacher, Andrew Mangum an event coordinator at West Texas A&M University and engaged to Lauryn Carroll, and Joshua, a high school junior.

Their grandchildren are Annie and Ellie Coleman (don't ask about them unless you want to see pictures).

Scripture Reading

Deuteronomy 30:15-20 (New Revised Standard Version)

15 See, I have set before you today life and prosperity, death and adversity. 16 If you obey the commandments of the Lord your God that I am commanding you today, by loving the Lord your God, walking in his ways, and observing his commandments, decrees, and ordinances, then you shall live and become numerous, and the Lord your God will bless you in the land that you are entering to possess. 17 But if your heart turns away and you do not hear, but are led astray to bow down to other gods and serve them, 18 I declare to you today that you shall perish; you shall not live long in the land that you are crossing the Jordan to enter and possess. 19 I call heaven and earth to witness against you today that I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Choose life so that you and your descendants may live, 20 loving the Lord your God, obeying him, and holding fast to him; for that means life to you and length of days, so that you may live in the land that the Lord swore to give to your ancestors, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob.

Welcome Back Luncheon

On Pastor Mitch's first Sunday back with us, September 11, 2022,  we'll celebrate with an all-church luncheon following worship. The menu will comprise fried chicken, dinner rolls, green beans, coleslaw and assorted desserts. Should you care to bring a dessert, please sign up in the Welcome Center. Questions can be directed to Amy Tucker.

Explorers Sunday School Class

The Explorers Sunday School class is studying the Bible one book at a time. We are finishing up I Corinthians in the next couple of weeks and will start on II Corinthians after that. We invite all who are searching for ways to grow in their Christian faith to come join us. We have great discussions as we don’t understand all we read. We talk it out and learn from each other. We have John MacArthur’s study guide to help us. We are ordering new books if you would like to have one. We meet in the room south of the library. Join us on our journey.

Calling All Greeters

In our continuing efforts of “Embracing our neighbors with Christ-like love”, we want to ensure that our visitors and members are greeted each week on Sunday morning. We are putting in to place the following greeters “schedule”.

Each month the following ministry/team will be responsible to have two people present by 10:30 in the welcome center to open doors for people to enter, greet them by name if possible, offer coffee, show them where the rest rooms are etc.

The schedule is as follows:

  • September - DWM
  • October - Disciple Men
  • November - Deacons
  • December - All Book Clubs Wired word, Social Justice, Thursday book club.
  • January - Vision Advisory/Worship Teams

Greeters duties include but are not limited to:

  • Wear name badge.
  • Ensure coffee supplies are filled.
  • Open front door for those who need assistance.
  • Have name tags available for those that don't have one.
  • Have pink cards in hand for those who request to have a joy or concern shared.
  • Welcome all around!
  • Clean up coffee station and coffee pots between when service starts and when service ends.

Thank you for all you do!

Sunday Worship Masking

Round Rock Christian Church Congregation,

The Guiding Board is watching the Covid levels in our community and as of this time we are at the level Medium or Yellow. We are strongly recommending that everyone who can please wear a mask during our gathering and worship time. Hopefully the levels will decrease soon, and we can get back to our new normal, but in the meantime stay safe – protect yourself and others – and stay healthy.

If you are at high risk for severe illness, talk to your healthcare provider about whether you need to wear a mask and take other precautions

• Stay up to date with COVID-19 vaccines

• Get tested if you have symptoms

People may choose to mask at any time. People with symptoms, a positive test, or exposure to someone with COVID-19 should wear a mask.

If you are immunocompromised, learn more about how to protect yourself.

Find out more about the COVID-19 situation in Williamson County, Texas with COVID-19 Data Tracker.

Thank You,

Tasha York, Board Moderator
