July 30, 2021

Dear CIM Community Members,

Throughout the pandemic, CIM has closely followed the evolving guidance from the CDC and state and local health departments. The CDC recently changed their guidelines regarding face masks. The recommendation is that in areas with “substantial or high transmission,” all individuals, regardless of vaccination status, should wear a mask while indoors.

The State of Ohio updates their statistics on transmission every Thursday and yesterday (July 29), it was announced that both Cuyahoga County, and the state at large, are now in the “substantial transmission” category. As a result, CIM is reinstating our required masking policy, effective Saturday, July 31.

As a reminder, CIM’s mask policy is that masks are required at all times, unless you are actively playing a woodwind or brass instrument or singing. This applies to all spaces within CIM, including in practice rooms and on the stages, even when you are alone. Your mask must fit securely over your nose and mouth.

CIM’s leadership will continue to monitor the statistics and guidance very closely. Between now and the start of the semester, we will communicate any changes to our protocols or learning environment requirements as quickly as possible. As we approach the return to campus for the fall semester, please stay safe and do all that you can to protect your health and the health of those around you.

Sincerely,

Maddi Tolliver, Dean of Artistic Administration and Operations
