DISTRICT MISSION: The mission of the Cedarburg School District is to provide an exemplary education that challenges students in a nurturing environment to develop into lifelong learners, to become responsible adults, and to achieve their goals and dreams.
Fall Officially Begins!
Welcome to the 2022-23 school year in the Cedarburg School District! I first want to thank all of you who have welcomed me into the district. It has been a tremendous pleasure to get to know many of you and see the tradition of excellence in action. In the first few weeks of school, I have had the privilege of being in each of our schools multiple times and am thoroughly impressed with the hard work and dedication of each of our staff and students. I was incredibly impressed with the large turnout of families and friends that arrived to see off and pick up the elementary students on the first day of school.

As we look forward to the new school year, please know that the Cedarburg School District remains steadfast in its commitment to our mission… to provide an exemplary education that challenges students in a nurturing environment to develop into lifelong learners, to become responsible adults, and to achieve their goals and dreams. We do this by creating a learning environment focused on EACH student that is positive, respectful, challenging, engaging, collaborative, and continuously improving.

The District is continuing its work as a highly active Professional Learning Community (PLC) to ensure we meet the needs of EACH student. As a PLC district, each of our teams continually asks the following four questions as they review student data and plan future instruction:
  1. What do we want all students to learn?
  2. How will we know when they have learned it?
  3. How will we respond when some students do not learn it?
  4. How will we respond when some students already know it?
While there are no easy answers to questions 3 and 4, the District will continue to work with students and families as we navigate the learning journey.

I am greatly honored to serve as the Superintendent of the Cedarburg School District. Please feel free to reach out to me with any questions or concerns. I look forward to working with each of you as we strive to meet the learning needs of EACH of our students.

Cedarburg High School Honors
National Merit Scholarship

The National Merit Scholarship organization awards three levels of recognition Commended, Semi-Finalists, and Finalists each year. CHS is proud to announce Jayne Phillips, Max Verhaalen, and Jacob Meuler as achieving Semi-Finalist status and Mario Truong, Tori Bogenschultz, and Alexander Pollock as achieving Commended ratings. All Semi-finalists are invited to apply to become a finalist. They are evaluated on many factors, including performance on the PSAT, Academic Performance, Rigor of coursework at Cedarburg High School, and additional information provided in the semi-finalist’s application. The announcement of finalists typically occurs in February. We are excited to support Jayne, Max, and Jacob in their applications and wish them luck as they pursue even higher recognition.
Jayne Phillips, Max Verhaalen, and Jacob Meuler have been selected as part of approximately 16,000 national Semifinalists in the 2023 National Merit Scholarship Competition, based on their scores on the PSAT/NMSQT (Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test).
About 34,000 students nationwide are recognized for their exceptional academic promise & will receive Letters of Commendation from the National Merit Scholarship Corporation. Three CHS seniors who are joining the 2023 Program are Mario Truong, Tori Bogenschultz, and Alexander Pollock!
Perfect ACT Score

Two of our National Merit Scholar Semi-Finalists also achieved perfect scores on the ACT. Less than one-half of one percent of all students who take the ACT will achieve a perfect score. Congratulations, Jayne Phillips and Max Verhaalen on earning a perfect score of 36 on the ACT Assessment!
Arts in Education Week | Sept 11-17
CHS AP student Miriam Janssen-Hayes recently had her work chosen for the Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design (MIAD) pre-college institute brochure. Miriam is active in the arts program, excelling in drawing and painting. She is also one of our lead set designers for our theatrical productions this year - working on the design for the Fall play opening in November, "You Can't Take it with You" and the Musical in February, "Mama Mia". Congratulations Miriam!

CSD Employment Opportunities
The Cedarburg School District is often in need of paraprofessionals (special education program aides), instructional aides, clerical support, and substitute teachers. Positions can open up at any time throughout the year. We can often be flexible with schedules. Even if you can only work one day per week, it could be extremely helpful. If you have the time and are interested, please monitor the Wisconsin Education Career Access Network (WECAN) which is accessible at: https://wecan.waspa.org/ or the Cedarburg School District’s website under employment. Please consider joining the Cedarburg School District Team!

CHS Unveiling During Homecoming Week

In the fall of 2021, the City of Cedarburg Forestry Department removed an enormous dead ash tree from the front of the high school. What was intentionally left was a 6' stump. The plan was to have a Bulldog carved into the stump. Collaboration between many departments and a local wood carver has made this dream become a reality. This past spring the base was prepared and the statue was installed today. At this time it is covered with a tarp. As anticipation builds for the finished product, CHS is planning to have an unveiling next week during Homecoming Week. Stay tuned!
Family Sharing and CHS Athletics

During next week's JV and V athletics games on Sept 29 & 30, collection bins will be outside Groth Family Stadium at Alumni Field to collect food donations for Family Sharing of Ozaukee County, Inc. Any donations of non-perishable items are greatly appreciated! The event raises much-needed funds for Family Sharing's food pantry while raising awareness of the growing need in Ozaukee County. Let's GO Bulldogs!
CEF Bulldog Gala

This year the CEF annual event will be on Saturday, November 12th from 6-11 pm at the Bog Barn in Saukville. The Gala helps the foundation continue to support the Cedarburg School District through private financial funding for innovative grants.

Cedarburg Public Library
September is National Library Card Sign-Up Month. Your first library card is always free and during the month of September, the library will waive the fee to replace lost or missing cards. The library also has an app called Monarch2Go and it can act as a library card for you, which then eliminates the need for a physical card. Room reservations, event sign-up, and electronic resources are also available from the app. The Friends of Cedarburg Public Library are hosting a "Cedarburg Reads... and Writes!" event during Sept. and Oct. Local bestselling author Lesley Kagen's book, Every Now and Then, is the featured book and there is a writing contest with cash prizes for grades 3-5, 6-8, high school and adult. Kagen's book is loosely based in Cedarburg in the 1960s and the theme of the writing contest is "hometown memories". For more information, go to www.cedarburglibrary.org.
