Virtual Manufacturing Day 2021
On Friday, October 1, a total of 450 freshman students at eight area schools participated in the Heavy Metal Tours Virtual Manufacturing Day event. The students watched a video that outlined in-demand careers, shared information from employers, highlighted educational paths, and detailed the types of jobs available.

After the video, each classroom of students took part in an online quiz game to test the knowledge they gained from the experience. One student in each classroom was the lucky winner of a $20 gift card to local stores. A few winners are pictured below.

Bellin Hosts 10th Annual Health Innovations Forum
Bellin Health has announced the 10th Annual Health Innovations Forum set for Tuesday, November 2, and you are invited to join either in-person at the Lambeau Field Atrium or virtually. Hear from subject matter experts on topics ranging from Population Health to Lifestyle Medicine and more. Keynote speaker Jason Kotecki will present “The Art of Tinkering: Tiny Ways to Transform Everything”.

Celebrating Good News

BOSS Snowplow Expands
BOSS recently announced an office space expansion project that will add nearly 20,000 square feet and allow for current and future growth. Local contractor Gundlach Champion is leading the building project. Congratulations on the continued growth at BOSS!

DCHS Celebrates Exciting News
Dickinson County Healthcare System invited community stakeholders to celebrate recent renovations and improvements made at the facility. During the event, DCHS also announced a letter of intent to join Marshfield Clinic Health System in 2022. Congratulations to the team at DCHS for all of this positive progress and a bright future!
Child Care Partnership Extended
Systems Control and Northern Lights YMCA have announced an agreement to extend their child care partnership that was initiated in 2018. The partnership allows Systems Control to offer its growing workforce exclusive access to quality, licensed child care at the Little Sparks Child Care Center at the NLYMCA through 2024. Congratulations to both entities on this beneficial collaboration!

Clickner Receives IEDC Award
Congratulations to Amy Clickner! She was recognized with the 2021 Jeffrey A Finkle Organizational Leadership Award by the International Economic Development Council for her years of dedicated service creating jobs, investments, and opportunities in Michigan. Amy retired as CEO of Lake Superior Community Partnership in March Throughout her career, she has been a leader in economic development across the region.

Going PRO Talent Fund
The Going PRO Talent Fund (Talent Fund) is making awards to employers to assist in training, developing, and retaining current and newly hired employees. Training funded by the Talent Fund must be short-term and fill a demonstrated talent need that the employer is experiencing. Training must lead to a credential for a skill that is transferable and recognized by the industry. The deadline to apply is October 28. Details here.

MIOSHA Workplace Safety Grants
Small businesses with 250 employees or less can now apply for a Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration (MIOSHA) matching grant of up to $5,000 to make improvements to their workplace safety and health. The grants are available through the Workplace Improvement to Safety and Health (MIWISH) grant program and enable employers to purchase safety and health-related equipment and related training that will provide a safer and healthier work environment and reduce the risk of injury and illness to workers in Michigan.
