Five Things to Know About Cenda Wooten
By Cenda Wooten

Hello, DDCC! My name is Cenda Wooten. I am a lifelong Davidson County resident. In July 2021, I retired from Davidson County Schools having taught elementary school, middle school, and high school. I was also a lead teacher, elementary librarian, and middle school librarian. My final six years in the county were at Yadkin Valley Regional Career Academy. Many of you are teaching or have taught the amazing students who attend Valley. What a rewarding way to end my K-12 career!

I have been at DDCC since 2017 as an adjunct instructor teaching in the Transition Center as well as in the English Department. I started my teaching career in elementary school and thought I would never teach children older than 12. Was I ever wrong?! I absolutely LOVE it at DDCC!

I have been married to my husband for 33 years, and we have two children, a son-in-law, a grandson, and another grandchild on the way. My husband and I live in an old log cabin, so my hobbies revolve around it; I enjoy playing in the dirt in the flower gardens, upcycling items with which to decorate the house, and shopping for antiques.

Travel: So far, my favorite places to visit are Disney World, Southport, and anywhere in the NC mountains. I expect that to change soon as my husband and I are crossing off an item on our bucket list when we travel to Italy in November for a Culinary Tour of Tuscany!

Music: I listen to contemporary Christian music; Phil Wickham is my favorite artist. I also love old country; I’ve seen Alabama 21 times. If you pass me in the parking lot, and I’m singing, it’s probably a duet with Phil, Alabama, or George Strait. Just hope my windows are up so you can’t hear me!

Food: Yes! I love food! My husband is a culinary school graduate, so we love to eat. Culinary Tour of Tuscany - here I come!

Movie/Streaming Show: I love some historical fiction shows. My favorites are Downton Abbey and Poldark, and recently I binged Bridgerton.

Joyful Experience: Jesus gives me joy; my husband gives me joy; my family gives me joy; my students give me joy. My two-year-old grandson gives me a new special kind of joy. Earlier this week he said, “Love you, Mimi!” My heart melted. There is nothing like the love between a grandparent and a grandchild!

Poll Results!
By Phil Tietjen

The results are in from last week’s poll: How do you like to begin a class session? The two-top vote-getters were (1) Checking in with how the students are feeling and (2) Quick review of previous session’s materials. Bravo! These are definitely two good practices for starting a class.
