Are You Awake?
(In Person and Zoom Service)
Jung describes our “shadow” as the darker side of the psyche, representing wildness, chaos, and the unknown. Resolving our darker side(s) can be healing, but often painfully slow. Do we want to be that “awake”? Can we face our truths—and what are they? As the Japanese Zen masters say, “Don’t seek the truth; just drop your opinions.”

UU Dinner Club to state up!
Dinners will start the third Saturday or Sunday of October, if enough people sign up.
Please sign up by Oct. 4th.
Dinner Club will be very similar to the past but with a few changes. One change is that from the big pool of people who sign up, we will communicate each month to know exactly who will participate that month. Another change is that we will try out assigning salad, main dish, etc. to you so that main dish gets spread around. The host only supplies beverages and minimal appetizers such as crackers.
All are welcome to participate. Various cooking capacities will be taken into account for dish assignments. Individual dinner parties will be responsible for taking food allergies and preferences into account.
If you would like to participate, send an email to dinnerclub@uufscc.org. Include whether you would ever be willing to host (not necessary) and whether you have any other constraints such as needing a ride.
If you would like more info, please call, text or email Diana Wirt at 408-859-7112 or dinnerclub.org.

GREETINGS GREETERS!
Nothing says welcome like a smiling face. Now that we are meeting in person we need help with the greeter table on Sunday mornings. If you can arrive at 9:30 to help with set-up and then greet visitors, please email Bonnie McDonald at bonniemcd360@gmail.com.
Tell us how often you would be willing to do this and we'll put you on our volunteer list. Bonnie will then email you with a sign up sheet for the month. Remember how important this was back when you first started attending UUFSCC!

Book Club
Thursday, October 20th: Quiet: The Power of Introverts in a World that Can't Stop Talking by Susan Cain
Many people believe that to be an achiever or a great leader, you must be bold, action-oriented, outgoing, and aggressive, i.e. you must be an extrovert. In Quiet: The Power of Introverts in a World that Can´t Stop Talking, Susan Cain explains why this limited perspective is flawed.
If you have read a great book lately but are not currently attending the monthly book club meeting, email me with a synopsis and I will pitch it to the book club.
UUF Book Club meets at the Fellowship at 10:30 am for about an hour. We will meet in person, as well as, by ZOOM in July. Please join us for an interesting discussion.

Sunday, Sept 25, UU the Vote,
immediately after the service, on the patio
We only have 5 weeks left to personalize as many letters as possible, to send to under-represented and infrequent voters and encourage them to VOTE!
Are you frustrated, numb, angry, or scared about our country’s direction and politics? "Wake up" (literally and spiritually) and turn your values and emotions into action! Abortion rights, voting rights, human rights of all kinds, climate change, and our precious democracy are all at stake. You CAN do something to work for the most just and best possible outcome of this election. Inaction can allow the bullies to win!
Stop by and personalize just 5 letters! If it inspires you, take 5 more home with you to write during the week. (Make sure to bring them back!) Be a part of something bigger than yourself! UUFSCC has written over 400 letters! Let's make it to 500! We need YOU to help us get there!! Join our Justice Team, social justice teams from UU congregations around the county, and progressives of all kinds that care about human rights and our quality of life.
If you cannot join in person, we still have weekly Zooms to help you get your letters written at home. For questions or Zoom links, email UUtheVote.teri@gmail.com
