Hello Summer!
Enjoy Summer before it melts away!

A Summer Garden
I was standing in the middle of my garden the other day, surveying the results of several days of  tilling and planting. The young corn plants are up and enjoying the warmth of the sun. Will they be knee high by the 4th of July? It looks promising - but whose knees do we use to measure!
The cucumbers are  spreading out and climbing up the special trellis made for them. Where did all these plants come from? It looks like there will be a lot of pickling to be done, ready to be eaten next winter.

One of the most rewarding parts of my position as Supervisor is to be able to recognize community members or employees for their achievements.  For Town employees it is even more rewarding when you know employees are supporting each other and working as a team.  Recently I had the honor of recognizing one of our employees, Karen Barkdull, Clerk to our Planning and Zoning Boards.  Members of the Town staff, elected officials as well as outside professionals submitted letters in support of Karen being nominated for the 2021 New York Planning Federation Pomeroy Award for Zoning Achievement.  This award is presented to an individual, municipality, or agency for consistent high-quality work and/or an outstanding contribution to zoning in New York State and Karen was chosen as this year's recipient.

Solar Field Update
The solar panels are being installed up at the Transfer Station and construction should be complete by September.  The outpouring of support for the project has been overwhelming!  Solomon Solar is the company that will be taking over the solar farm project once it is complete, they will be responsible for managing the panels and the operation of the farm as a whole.  In recent conversations with Solomon Solar Town Officials learned that the Town of Skaneateles and its residents are one of the most energy conscious municipalities that Solomon has ever come across.

SAVES
SAVES was formed in 1967 by dedicated members of the community who saw a need for pre-hospital treatment and transport of the sick and injured within the Skaneateles area. In the beginning SAVES was staffed exclusively by volunteers. As times have changed and with advancements in the education requirements and the skills needed to be a professional EMS provider, we now have a nearly 100% compensated staff. New advance care procedures also require purchase of new and expensive equipment. SAVES' operation is partially funded by our patient's insurance and contributions provided by communities we serve.

Codes Enforcement Office
Codes Officer Robert Herrmann

It is important to clearly mark the front of your home (not just your mailbox) with your address to assist First Responders in the event of an emergency. Not just because this is part of the NYS Fire Code, it saves precious time when Emergency Response personnel could be by your side rather than looking for the correct house.
Per Section 505 of the 2020 Fire code of NY State titled Premises Identification

"New & existing buildings shall be provided with approved address identification. ...shall be legible and placed in a position that is visible from the street or road fronting the property.  Address identification characters shall contrast with their background. Address numbers shall be Arabic numbers....Numbers shall not be spelled out. Each character shall not be less than 4 " high with minimum stroke width of ½"."

"where access is by means of private road and building cannot be viewed from the public way, a monument, pole or other sign  or means shall be used to identify the structure. Address identification shall be maintained."

Reminder: Any pool designed to hold 24" inches in depth or more of water, have requirements just as permanent pools. They are required to have a  building permit. If you have any questions regarding pool requirements please call the office.
For Building Permit or Codes questions call 315-685-0833 or
Calls are normally answered within 24 hours during the week.
