COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT PROGRAM

In the month of July, the Community Engagement team attended several food and resource drives. We got the opportunity to meet new community leaders and members throughout South Los Angeles to discuss health equity and educational resources. We joined Steve Wesson, Managing Director of Community Partnerships and Village Ombudsman Community and Local Government Partnerships at USC at the monthly Open Arms Food Pantry and Resource Center. We helped serve over two hundred individuals and families in the walk-up and drive-up lines giving out food, diapers, hygiene kits, clothes, and other essential items

So Cal Center for Latino Health

We have been hard at work at the Center putting together a series of listening sessions that will allow us to better understand the experiences of Latino families with obesity, type 2 diabetes, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, and high cholesterol. These sessions will inform the work of the center and support the collaborative work of a coalition of community organizations, universities, research institutions, and health care organizations across Southern California to develop equity-focused, culturally sensitive, and family-based interventions that work towards the elimination of these diseases.

HEALTH STUDIES

A team of researchers at Children's Hospital Los Angeles is conducting a study to better understand the long-term effects of COVID-19 in people under the age of 25 who are suspected of having COVID-19 or who have been diagnosed with COVID-19.

They want to understand...

  • How COVID affects a child's body.
  • How many children feel sick for a long time after getting COVID?
  • Why do some children feel sick for so long?

Participants will be compensated for their time and participation in the study.
