If you can believe it, summer is almost over, but there are still a few days left to complete the Summer Reading Program! Our program officially ends on August 31st! In the Kids and Teen reading programs, participants who complete all reading and activity badges can stop in and pick up a prize pack with coupons from places like Pizza Hut and Cousin's Subs. You also get to pick out a cute knit critter!

As for prize drawings, you will still have until September 3rd to enter your drawing tickets. Tickets are what you earn after completing reading and activity badges. If you need help with entering tickets into drawings, please view our tutorial video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4ciJsyySqG0. Drawings will be conducted the following week and we will email our winning participants. Any questions beyond this, please email: youth@mononalibrary.org

Thank you all for your incredible reading efforts this summer! It's community members like you who make our Summer Reading Program a blast!
This announcement does not come easy to us--we have been incredibly excited about the Community Read launching this fall, but with the Delta variant spreading rapidly, we have decided that it is best for us to postpone this initiative until May of 2022.

Antiracism is an incredibly important topic for our community, and we want to ensure that we do it justice by providing intentional, in-depth programming that serves the authors of our selected books and the members of our community well. With the many barriers of COVID, we feel our program will be more impactful at a time that, we hope, will not be so uncertain.

This does not mean we are halting discussions about antiracism until May--it is a topic that we know is needed in Monona. This fall we will still offer a couple of programs that will provide context for the importance of antiracism as a practice in our community. We will also be continuing to conduct internal work at the library as we foster relationships with our partners, analyze the diversity and inclusivity of our collections, and reexamine our policies and practices.

COVID-19 is not the only public health crisis we are experiencing: racism has been declared a public health crisis in Wisconsin since 2018. And we know that it has been for hundreds of years. Let's keep working together to make our community a safe and inclusive space for all. We look forward to sharing more details soon!
