HFAA Hires Nationally-Ranked Firm to Enhance Arts-Integrated Curriculum
Harding Fine Arts Academy (Academy), an arts-integrated charter high school, has contract with Creative Generation in order to enhance existing arts-integrated curriculum for the benefit of the students and faculty.

The Academy was founded in 2005 and became the first school in the state to adopt the A+ Schools model of arts integration. With the help of grant funding provided by the Kirkpatrick Foundation, the Academy has been able to hire Creative Generation to build on 17 years of success.

“As we continue to strive to provide a world-class educational experience, Creative Generation is going to propel us forward!” said Harding Fine Arts Academy Superintendent Taylor C. Stanton. “Their organization is going to refine and transform Harding Fine Arts Academy into a 21st century arts-integrated school."

In five phases over a year, Creative Generation will build a foundation of community-based collaborations, produce new curriculum, deliver a series of professional development workshops for teachers, and reflect on the process for future work. At the end of the program, Creative Generation will host a summer institute sharing its findings with teachers in the Oklahoma City area.

Professional development sessions will focus on increasing educational equity, empowering young people as leaders, promoting arts-based civic engagement, and how to center personal and community wellness in education.

This partnership aligns with the Academy’s five-year strategic plan which was adopted in December 2021.

Artist of the Month
From left to right: Imani Carr, Julian Whitsitt and Navy Williams from Harding Fine Arts Academy's Little Shop of Horrors.
Imani Carr, Senior
Imani is a very involved and successful student at Harding Fine Arts Academy. She is known for her acting abilities as well as her academic achievements.

Imani has received the African American National Recognition Award from CollegeBoard, the AP Scholars Award, the Superintendent Award for Arts Excellence Award for Drama, the Firehawk Award her sophomore and junior year as voted on by HFAA faculty, and has been on the Superintendent Honor Roll from freshman through junior year. She is a member of the International Thespians Society, is the past president of National Honor Society, is involved with Black Student Association and was involved with the HFAA volleyball team her freshmen through junior years. This fall, she will be playing Blanche DuBois in A Streetcar Named Desire, which the Drama department will be performing at One Act competition later in the semester. In the spring of this year, she was Audrey II in Little Shop of Horrors.

Her favorite artistic discipline is drama. “It scares me but in a challenging way," said Imani. "When I’m on stage, I can become whomever I want to be and give life to characters in a script. The challenge of doing that well is scary but when it is done well, I feel really accomplished.”

She chose to attend Harding Fine Arts Academy because of its focus on arts-integrated education and she stayed because of the environment. To Imani, her fellow students and teachers are her greatest inspiration. They have provided an understanding and motivating learning environment that makes school fun and engaging.
