PARISH NEWS

St. Peter's YouTube Page Revived

St. Peter's created a YouTube page during the pandemic that was well used during that time, but not at all after that. It is now revived and you can expect to see short edifying videos of all kinds there appearing periodically. For example, two of Rev. Paul's first sermons at St. Peter's are now there to be seen or re-seen. To find the YouTube page, just click on the YouTube button at the upper right corner of the church's main webpage or at the bottom of this weekly email. You can also subscribe to be notified of new content.

Sunday Flower Donations!

If you wish to make a flower donation in memory or in celebration, please sign up your name on the flower calendar in the Narthex of the church. You may either donate by placing your donation in the collection plate or go to the St. Peter’s website to donate online.  The Donate button is located in the top right corner of the homepage or you can use this LINK.  In the drop-down menu, select “Flower Donation.”

Please contact Helen Stock (helenstock2@gmail.com) as to the type of flower arrangements you prefer and contact Emily (office@stpetersweston.org) as to the wording you would like to appear in the bulletin.

Member Name Tags on Sundays!

On future Sundays, please be sure to wear your name tag during services! We want to greet you by name, both long-timers and newcomers alike. If you do not have a plastic name tag, please use the sticker name tags provided on the table in the Narthex. We will let the parish office know and will make a printed one for the board.

Thank you!

Email Scams

A reminder that Rev. Paul nor any of the lay leaders of this church will never text or email directly you asking you for money or donations. There is a rise in phishing scams where someone posting from a phone number or email that appears to be from clergy or lay leaders are attempting to steal money from parishioners or others on a mailing list. When you think you've received a suspicious communication, please contact Rev. Paul, John Jacobs, or Mike Iacono directly.

Afghan Ministry Update

We are busy helping the large wave of new arrivals from Afghanistan. These families include a journalist, drug enforcement officer and a woman teacher who worked for the US government or military and were not able to leave previously. Through them, we are hearing what life under the Taliban has been like. Women cannot work, attend school or even speak in public and are unable to leave the home for fear of the Taliban morality police. Families are moving from place to place to evade Taliban reprisals. Holding a job or having a semblance of a normal life is impossible in this situation. We are grateful that the US Government continues to evacuate our allies. Among the group are several young woman college students who are seeking to continue their education.

Fall is here, the children are back in school and the moms have resumed meeting indoors every other Tuesday.  Several women are completing vocational training programs and the women of Sewing Seeds for Hope are busy producing items for holiday sales. The men’s group has resumed with a picnic with over 40 men. It was a fun day with sports, socializing, pizza and an opportunity for new men to connect with other Afghan men in Manchester.

With so many new families and winter coming, we are in need of short men’s winter coats and long women’s winter coats, winter shoes and boots. Thanks to donations from Weston and Wayland, we now have enough sewing machines for all of the new women but continue to need fabric and notions for them to sew clothing.

This picture shows an ideal Afghan living room. In Afghanistan, people use a low mattress, called a toshak, for sitting and sleeping. Floors are completely covered with a rug, which is kept scrupulously clean as families eat and pray on the floor. We are in need of WalMart gift cards to buy the foam for the mattresses, which the women will cover with donated upholstery fabric. We are also seeking donations of rugs of any size in good condition. These items will help the new arrivals feel at home in their new country.

Thank you as always for your support.
