SAFER COMMUNITY APP
Students, faculty and staff are being asked to update the Safer Community app by Oct. 7.

The app must be updated on smartphones to version 2.12.48 (or newer). Any version of the app older than v2.12.48 will cease to work on Oct. 8. More-

Also, please stop and check-in with the safer community wellness attendant at the south entrance door. We have noticed several students failing to do so. Remember, check-in IS a requirement for entrance to the building.
ADVISING CORNER
Spring 2022 Class Registration
Spring advising season is here! All students are able to view both the 2022 Spring Pre-Session and Regular Spring Semester Class Schedule in MYRED. This means you can put classes in your shopping cart, but please note that Priority Registration does not begin until October 25th. Ultimately, please make an advising appointment to meet with your assigned academic advisor BEFORE October 25th

Academic Advising Appointments Reminder
Please remember that if you are unable to attend a scheduled appointment with your advisor to either cancel the appointment in MyPlan or to email your advisor to let them know, so that other students may take advantage of that appointment time slot. This is especially important as we are advising for priority registration right now and advising appointment time slots are being taken up quickly.

Pass / No Pass
The last day to change a full-length Regular Academic Session course registration to or from “Pass/No Pass” is Friday, October 15th

A few things you should know about Pass/No Pass include:

·NEVER change a class to Pass/No Pass without checking with your advisor first.
·DSGN/ARCH/IDES/LARC courses are all REQUIRED to have a letter grade. Taking these subjects as Pass/No Pass is NOT an option. (And all of these courses must be completed with a C or better.)
·Required electives are all REQUIRED to have a letter grade. These include courses like MATH, ENGL, COMM, HORT, and Natural Science electives. Taking these subjects as Pass/No Pass is NOT an option. (Additionally, these courses must be completed with a C or better.)
·Some (ACE) electives (6, 8 and 9) may be taken as Pass/No Pass, but please consult with your advisor first.
PAC MEETING
INTERIOR DESIGN
We find ourselves at the halfway point in the semester! It is hard to believe that in just eight weeks we will be celebrating your accomplishments at final reviews. It also means that many studios have completed their first round of studio projects. In the upcoming weeks, I hope to highlight some of the specific projects and student work in various core interior design courses. When featuring studios, the program faculty also want to take the opportunity to feature the instructors who teach them. But not as academics, but as people. More-
ARCHITECTURE
Two weeks ago, the Architecture Program hosted Brad Brooks as the college’s Distinguished Alumni for UNL’s Multicultural Homecoming. Brooks engaged first-year through M.Arch students, including lunch with the NOMA student organization, then a student-centered presentation and conversation. At the end of his presentation, Brooks openly discussed his thoughts and reflections on equality/equity, inclusion, positivity, advocacy and accountability. The thoughtful and reflective presentation prompted students to think critically and inclusively about their current and future experiences in architecture. More-
LANDSCAPE ARCHITECTURE NEWS
This is a great time of the year with beautiful fall weather, colors and sunsets! I hope you are spending some time out in the natural environment, enjoying its beauty! Before we even realize, already one third of the semester has sped by, and a lot of exciting work is starting to show. I can’t wait to see them all.
I want to start this week’s newsletter by reminding you that we will have a landscape architecture focused Hyde Lecture titled “Design for Resilience,” presented by Jeffery Hou Ph.D., professor of landscape architecture at the University of Washington, Seattle. More-
FACULTY/STUDENT NEWS
Community and Regional Planning Program Director and Professor Zhenghong Tangs research project titled “Develop a near real-time monitoring tool from the Sentinel satellites for conservation easements” was funded by USDA with $100,000.
Congratulations to the University of Nebraska architecture charrette team for winning first place in the AIA Central States Region student competition.
The college had two teams compete led by Bud Shenefelt and Craig Babe.

1.   The winning team advised by Babe included Scott Lafferty, Patrick Pineda, Caroline Goertz and Trey Erwin
2.   The second team led by Shenefelt included Ali Jabbar, Nikita Mansinghani, William Roarty, Joshua Dickey

Great efforts were made by both teams!
The charrette style competition challenged participants to identify opportunities to improve upon the fabric of the Strawberry Hill historic neighborhood in Kansas City, Kansas, that would encourage connectivity, develop a sense of place and social interaction. After the pandemic there is a hesitancy to come together. Using design, students were challenged to find ways to reconnect in a healthy and inclusive way.
