Principal's Message

Dear Greenbriar families,

It was amazing to be able to invite everyone back into the building on Wednesday night! Thanks to everyone who was able to come to our Curriculum Night presentations. We hope they were informative. This was a fun week at Greenbriar with our summer book party in the library yesterday (see pictures below) and our first pizza day at lunch. We're making the most of this wonderful weather and squeezing in some time outside as well.

Thanks to everyone who has been following our arrival procedures. We have been lucky to have the Northbrook Police Department out this week helping to support our traffic flow on Greenbriar Lane. Our first priority is to ensure student safety and we appreciate everyone's help keeping everything running safely and efficiently.

We're sending out another remind/request to help keep our students safe. Supervision on the playgrounds begins at 8:15 each morning. We have had large groups of students playing unsupervised each morning over the past two weeks. Please do not send your children to the playgrounds until 8:15.

Our first PTO meeting of the school year is Tuesday, 9/13 at 8:45. All are welcome to attend. We meet at Greenbriar but you can also join via Zoom if you'd like. Check out details in the PTO section below.

Don't forget--today is picture day at Greenbriar!

Have a great weekend!

Warmly,

Ginny

TECH CLARIFICATION FOR PARENTS

Every classroom has a digital space where students can access information, assignments, and add artifacts of their learning. Seesaw is the platform used in grades K-2 and by our specials teachers (Art, Music, PE, and Spanish). Google Classroom is used in 3rd-5th grade as their main digital learning space, but some 3-5 teachers may also use Seesaw from time to time. Parents may request access to Google Classroom via their child's credentials. Teachers may also send home access to other electronic supports as appropriate for the grade level (e.g., online reading platforms, typing practice, etc.). Your child's teachers are always the best resource to learn about supporting learning via these platforms at home.

Please note that if a child is home under a COVID quarantine and is participating in remote learning, assignments for specials classes (music, art, P.E., Spanish) can be found on SeeSaw for all grades.

Only 5th graders bring home iPads on a daily basis. Students in K-4 may bring home iPads if they are learning remotely or if there is a special assignment from a teacher.

SNACK REMINDER

We are seeing more students forgetting their snacks and coming to the office/health office to ask for a snack. We can provide snacks in case of an emergency, but we appreciate parents' help in sending their children with a healthy snack if they feel it's needed. Please send snacks that are safe for consumption in the classroom based on letters sent to the class at the start of the year.

GREYHOUND GATHERING IS SEPT. 21ST! *repeat*

We are getting so excited for our upcoming Greyhound Gathering event on September 21st. This is a family event that will take place on the Greenbriar front blacktop/field. There will be a variety of activities, food, and a raffle of some awesome teacher-donated experiences. More details will be coming soon. Thanks to all of our Greyhound Gathering PTO committee members and to Hi-Five Sports who is helping to sponsor this event. "Hi-Five offers year long sports programs, day off of school camps, and birthday parties for kids at the Hi-Five Sports Zone Northbrook Court. Hi-Five Sports Camp North Shore is also offering early bird registration for all families from District 28. Email [email protected] and mention you go to school at Greenbriar and receive an additional $100 credit to use towards your camp registration for 2023. You can also mention this note and receive $30 off your next bday party at the Hi-Five Sports Zone!"

EXPECTATIONS FOR SMART WATCHES & CELL PHONES *repeat*

We recognize that many students may bring cell phones and/or smart watches to school. Please remind your children that they may not use these devices to send or receive messages or calls while at school. Please do not contact your child via a phone or watch during school hours. Per our parent/student handbook, "Electronic Devices Cell phones, portable music devices, and other hand-held devices that are capable of sending and/or receiving text or electronic messages or images are to be turned off during school hours and are to be kept secured in a student’s locker, unless otherwise authorized by school personnel. Smart Watches must be set to ‘school mode’ to prevent sending/receiving calls and messages. Under no circumstances are students permitted to take and/or transmit digital images (pictures or videos) at school, on school property, or at school events (including field trips) where students and/or staff have a reasonable expectation of privacy. Electronic devices may be confiscated by a staff member who determines that one or more of these procedures have been violated. Loss of access to personal wireless electronic devices can occur if district personnel become concerned about its appropriate use. Examples of district concerns include safety, potential for disruption to educational processes, and security issues related to connecting a personal computer to the district network."
